First district of the Apple-brandy

The first district of the Calvados is represented in XIIIe legislature by Philippe Duron, appointed PS and chair District council of Basse-Normandie.

Geographical and demographic description

Located at the center of the department, the first district of the Calvados gathers the western districts and the western suburbs of the city-prefecture, Caen. It gathers the cantons according to:

• Canton of Caen-1

• Canton of Caen-2
• Canton of Caen-3
• Canton of Caen-8
• Canton of Caen-9
• Canton of Tilly-on-Only

Historical and political description

In a traditionally on the right anchored department, the first district of the Apple-brandy is a district which tends gradually towards the left. Thus, she elected its first socialist deputy in 1997, to return on the right into 2002 only by 116 votes of variation, that is to say 50,14% of the votes. This evolution was confirmed with presidential of the 2007 when district with voted, contrary to the national results, to 53,35% for Ségolène Royal.
