First district of Charente
The first district of Charente is one of the 4 French legislative districts which account the department of the Charente (16) located in area Poitou-Charentes.
Geographical and demographic description
The first district of Charente is delimited by the electoral Découpage of the law n°86-1197 of the November 24th 1986 , it gathers the following administrative divisions:
- Canton of Angouleme-Is,
- Canton of Angouleme-West,
- Canton of Aubeterre-on-Drone,
- Canton of Blanzac-Porcheresse,
- Canton of Chalais,
- Canton of the Crown,
- Canton of Montbron,
- Canton of Montmoreau-Saint-Cybard,
- Canton of Villebois-Lavalette.
According to the general Census of the population in 1999, carried out by the National institute of the Statistics and Economic studies (INSEE), the total population of this district is estimated at 85670 habitants, .
