Firn Shalom - Wahat ace Salam

Firn Shalom (in Hebrew: נווהשלום - Firn Shalom ; in Arab: واحةالسلام - Wāħat have-Salām ) car its name of the Livre of Isaïe (32, 18) where it is known as “My people will live in a place of peace… ”.

This village of peace, created in 1970, is close to Latrun, on a hill in edge of the valley of Ayalon, at equal distance (30 km) of Jerusalem and Such-Aviv-Jaffa. He is inhabited by Israeli citizens Juifs and Arab which works for the equality of rights and the agreement between the two people. Bruno Hussar, the founder, was a Dominican brother of Jewish origin born in Egypt. The Abbaye of Latrun granted to him for a sum symbolic system the right to settle in these places where settled since around fifty (2006) families, others are on the waiting list and a recent authorization should allow the construction of 90 additional houses.

Since 1979, a bilingual school offers to the children of the village and the surroundings an education open to the two cultures. A “school of Peace” proposes meetings and seminars with the young people as with the adults. 45.000 people already took part in it, of the drives to the management of the conflicts are proposed there. Lastly, the “Doumia - Sakinah” is a pluralist spiritual center created in memory of Bruno Hussar and opened with any public which can find a hotel trade on the spot. In June 2006, a great concert of Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) attracted more than 40.000 people with Neve Shalom, on this occasion, celebrates it English rocker required of Israel to destroy the wall ( tear down the wall ) in the course of construction.

The village received in 1993 the Prix Niwano of peace.
