Firle
Firle is one of the civil parishes District of Lewes of the East Sussex in England.
Its name draws its origin from a Anglo-Saxon word which means wood of oak . It is mentioned like belonging to the Abbey of Wilton under the reigne of Edouard the Confessor (1042 - 1066). The principal aglomeration of the parish is West Firle; at the 13th century, there was East Firle, which belonged to the Seigneurerie of Heighton St Clere, which is extinct for a long time. The seigneurery of Firle Place, which is on the territory of the parish, is registered with the inventory of the Domesday Book. It belonged successively to several big families of Sussex, of which the Levett family (of Livet), at the 13th century, then towards 1440, the Bolney family whose Agnes girl married William Gage, the Gage family which inherited the seigneurery thus.

- Thomas Guarantees (1719 - 1787), born with Firle, general, commander-in-chief of the British forces in North America of 1763 to 1775.
