Fires of the Candlemas

Fires of the Candlemas is a French film carried out by Serge Korber with Annie Girardot, Jean Rochefort, Claude Jade, Bernard Le Coq and Bernard Fresson, left the May 24th 1972.

Synopsis

With his Marie-Louise wife and her two children Jean-Paul and Laura, Me Boursault, notary of province, would have been happiest of the men if his wife did not post her opinions gauchists openly and did not take part in all kinds of demonstrations. The common life not being more possible, on February 2nd, 1962, day of the Candlemas, Me Boursault separates from his wife to settle in the largest town hall. With the passing of years Marie-Louise raises her children and tries to remain faithful to her political ideal… But it is soon reduced with the inaction, without husband, trade, children. In ten years it touches several times the bottom of the abyss. It is believed insane.

February 2nd, 1972, she issues that it is spring and leaves with a red straw hat whereas it snows with large flakes. Alexandre Boursault addresses to him the word - the first since years - for him to advise another hairstyle. This meeting acts like a love at first sight. Into this Laura swirl fall in love with Marc Champenois, a buddy of his mother. Marie-Louise finds - inspired by the happiness of Laura - her chance: convinced that Alexandre is always in love with it, it does not live any more but in the hope of a reconciliation. It behaves like a teenager and does all that is in its capacity to separate its ex-husband from his new wife, Clotilde. But his/her son, believing his truly insane mother, will try by all the means of tearing off it with his illusions. He will say that until him she is nothing any more for Alexandre. The shock will kill it… fifteen minutes before the return of its ex-husband who wanted to take again the common life.
