Fiorenzo Magni
Fiorenzo Magni (Vaiano, December 7th 1920) was one of the cyclists Italy NS most powerful and famous of the Années 1940 and 1950, the " third homme" Italian cycling, worthy rival of the champions of the gauge of Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali. It was called the " lion of Flandres" thanks to its three consecutive victories with the Turn of Flandres.
Biography
It had to stop its studies to help his father in the family small company of transport. It was to travel much to Vélo and is as it was caught of passion for the Cyclisme. In 1936, it begins in the candidates category in the club of the Associazione Ciclistica Pratese, and spends the following year in the higher catéorie.
Amateur
His/her father dies in 1937, but in spite of the difficulties, it does not give up cycling and in 1938, it passes to the amateurs under the colors of team A.C. Montecatini Terme. In 1939, it is selected for the Championships of the World on road amateurs, to which it cannot take share because of the Second world war. It gained many races among amateurs of which the Turn of the Provinces of Milan in 1940.
Professional
He passes professional in 1940. In 1944, it moves in Monza, but the war and a disqualification (1946) prevents it from running. It starts again in 1947 in the Viscontea team. Its good performances enable him to be selected for the Championships of the world on road of Rheims where it finishes 4e.The following year (1948), it is devoted to the " traditional of the nord" , storing experiment. With its second participation, it gains the Tour of Italy. A victory prone to polemic, following a penalty (120 seconds) considered too light for poussettes at the time of a stage of mountain.
This victory marked the one period beginning ostentation: its characteristics of excellent wheeler-climbing equipped with a great tenacity, enabled him to rectify apparently desperate situations.
