The Finland of South-west , or true Finland ( Varsinais-Suomi in Finnish) is the 3rd the most populated area Finland. Its capital is Turku.
Geography
Located at the junction of the Gulf of Finland and the Gulf of Bothnia, Finland of South-west belongs to the province of Western Finland. The area is bordered in north by the Satakunta and the Pirkanmaa (since 2005 and the fastening of Punkalaidun in Pirkanmaa), in the east by the Kanta-Häme and the Uusimaa. The 2/3 of the population reside in the agglomeration of Turku or in the vicinity immediate. The interior, slightly populated, is a plate relatively low (env 100m of altitude) which marks the source of several rivers of average importance (most notable being the Paimionjoki and the Aurajoki). Those go down soft inclined towards the sea according to an axis NE-SO. The hills are relatively low (maximum 159 m with Somero) but the relief is nevertheless apparent (many Moraine S), contrasting with the zones more punts of Ostrobotnie or the Satakunta. The principal coastal area and valleys are strongly populated, seat of all the principal cities, Salo, Paimio, Uusikaupunki and of course Turku. The South-western part of the area is formed by the Archipel of Turku, offering the face of one of the coasts most cut out to the world with thousands of islands, overall little populated, except in summer because of the great number of secondary houses built in the archipelago.
Communes
Finland of South-west comprises 54 communes including 11 cities. The cities are marked in fat.
