Final Furnace basketball NCAA

The Championnat NCAA of basketball is a championship gathering more than 300 American universities. These universities constitute Division 1 of the NCAA and are gathered in 33 conferences (zones) which gather ten teams. 4 the best reaches the Final Furnace (or finale with four).

The competition

As from January, the universities take part in a championship by match outward journey and return within this conference. During this same period, these universities meet universities of other conferences, but according to criteria including the prize list…: thus, only the of the same teams standing meet.

The participation in the final tournament of NCAA gathers 64 teams then. Those are chosen by a selection committee of the NCAA. This one is only judge in the choice of the participants and designations of the head of series (starting from criteria such as the percentage of victories in the year, the prestige of the teams…).

The 64 participants of the final tournament, who begin in March, are gathered in 4 regional groups. In each one of these groups, the teams are classified from 1 to 16 and take part in a tournament where they meet on only one match.

The 4 winners of groups are then qualified for the Final Furnace which is generally held the first weekend of April. This one constitutes an major event of the American sporting season: only the Super Bowl exceeds it in term of popularity.
