The play was published in the Japan by Square, in North America by Square EA, L.L.C, in continental Europe by Infogrames Entertainment SA (IESA), and with the the United Kingdom like in Australia by Square Europe, Ltd.. It was the last original play of the series Final Fantasy with being produced for the PlayStation. This incarnation of the series is influenced by the original Final Fantasy , and the Bibi character as several Boss has nostalgic values for the admirors of long time of the series.
Gameplay
The gameplay in Final Fantasy IX is rather standard with the roleplays for console. The characters players fight to pile up points of experiment, which enables them to increase their level and consequently, their force, their speed, their defense, and other capacities, which all are numerically described for each character. Each character in Final Fantasy IX has competences of combat which are single for him and which can be obtained only by him: Djidane can fly of the objects to the enemies, Freyja can jump and attack in descent with a small swath, Kweena can eat a weakened enemy and learn one from its attacks if possible, and so on. New competences, from combat and support, are learned while equipping with the weapons and armours, each one containing various units of competences to be learned and of which some are common to more than one character. Each competence requires a certain number of CP: when the character acquired some sufficiently (while fighting), he learns competence in a permanent way; without the sufficient number of CP, competence can be used only when the weapon or armor in question is equipped. Competences of combat are automatically usable when the good weapon or armor is equipped or when she is learned, but competences of support require magikolithes which are available in limited quantity (which increases with the level of the character). Each competence of support requires a certain number of magikolithes to be activated. The system of battle of Final Fantasy IX is different in several ways of its predecessors on PlayStation, Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII . Some changes brought to the system of battle include:
- a team of battle of four characters . The teams of battle in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII never contained more than three characters. Final Fantasy IX , however, turns over to the value used in the pre-PlayStation installations, and makes it possible four characters to take part more in a battle.
- a system of Fright . This system is similar to the system of Limit Break (breaking of limit) of Final Fantasy VII . With each time a character receives damage coming from the enemy lasting a battle, its gauge of Fright fills according to the value of the received damage. When the gauge is filled, the character enters in Fright, which wants to say that its capacities increase and that, in certain cases, it has access to new competences. However, there are differences between Fright and the Limit Break :
- On average, the gauge of Fright spends more time to fill than the bar of Limit Break .
- the Attaquer order is not replaced by another thing, instead of that, one of single competences of the character is replaced by an “improved” version. For example, competence MgNoire (Abréviation of black magic) of Bibi is replaced by MgNoire+, which enables him to use two magics in a turn.
- Each character enters automatically in Fright when the gauge is filled whereas the Limit Break makes it possible to choose between continuing to attack normally or start to use the special orders.
- Each time a character achieves an action whereas it is in Fright, the gauge of Fright is emptied according to the power of the achieved action, contrary to the Limit Break which can be used only once.
- At once gauge of Fright filled, it uses automatically and lasts that for this only battle, while the bar of Limit Break is emptied only when the choice is made use it, it does not matter the number of battles in which the character takes part before using the Limit Break .
- Magic with several targets . The majority of the magics can be directed towards several enemies or characters. There are also certain magics which can move only worms one enemy or character whereas others can be directed only on the whole of the enemies or characters.
- chimerical Magic . The Dreams (name given to the creatures which can be called upon in this Final Fantasy ) are separate in two categories: the white magic and the black magic, and can be called upon only by Grenat/Dagga and Eiko , users of white magic. Each Dream has two animations of attack, a full version and a short version. The full version means that the attack is with full power whereas the short version means that the power of the attack is reduced. The first time that a Dream is called upon, it always achieves the most powerful attack, the second time as well as the remainder of time, the accomplished attack is randomly selected between the full version and the short version, more often short.
- Almost Multijoueur . In small Config. (abbreviation of Configuration), the player can regulate the options of the lever so that one second lever can control the second, third and/or fourth characters during the battles.
Mog-station
Mog-station is a system of fictitious Poste used by the Mog. As the player progresses, it will find of Mog through principal planet of the play (Héra). When the player speaks in Mog, it reaches the menu Mog-safeguard which almost always enables him to safeguard its part, to use a tent to regenerate its HP and MP, and sometimes to buy objects. Certains Mog can also require of the character player to be used as factor by delivering a letter in another Mog using Mog-station. Certains Mog will give a letter coming from another character of the play, but that less frequently arrives.
Later in the play, it is revealed that Mog require of the player to deliver the letters in their place because the center Mog-station, where the letters of Mog are generally classified, tests mechanical problems with the result that the delivery of the letters is intermittent. It is later revealed that the problem was caused by Mog factrice Hartemision, which makes its fur more brilliant while making use of the lubricant normally used to oil the machine, which causes its failure and prevents the classification of the letters.
History
We are in the Kingdom of Alexandria, controlled by the Branet queen. It is the birthday of his/her daughter, the Grenat princess, and a great festival is organized in its honor. During these rejoicings, the sovereign one required of a theater company to interpret its favorite part. The troop precisely unloads in the court of the castle, on board sound aérothéâtre PRIMA Vista, a flying boat which is used to him as scene. Actually, the actors belong to a band of robbers, Tantalas, and are charged to remove the Grenat princess. This removal does not have any harmful objective, it is a pretext to try to reason Branet, which sends its army to the four corners of the world in order to control the other people. On her side, the Grenat princess is unhappy and dreams to leave the castle to leave to the adventure. Its wish thus will be exaucé more quickly than envisaged…
The young Black Magus Bibi, as for him, wants absolutely to attend the stage performance, but as its ticket is a forgery, it enters the castle without paying (by the roofs). The Grenat princess flees during the first portion of a piece but quickly made the meeting of Djidane, member of Tantalas, which uncovers it quickly. The young girl then asks him to make pretense remove it (whereas it is precisely about the mission of Djidane). Steiner, the Captain of Brutos (knights of the castle of Alexandria), launches out to their continuation and all this small world is found on scene during the last act of the part. At this point in time Bibi, pursued by soldiers for his illegal entry is also found on the scene and inadvertently launches the Brasier magic to him on the Garnet coat, which takes fire. That forces the Grenat princess to withdraw the coat; the Branet queen recognizes it then and enters an insane rage. The troop of Tantalas escapes not without damage from the castle. The vessel, severely touched, is crushed in a place called the Cursed Forest.
Garnet is then made remove by a servant of the Master of the Cursed Forest. Djidane decides to go to its research, thing which costs him its expulsion of the band of Tantalas, its decision violating the payment of Tantalas indeed. Bibi and Steiner unite with him (a little guilty Bibi feeling and Steiner having sworn always to take care on the princess). Once the Master of the forest overcome, the Grenat princess is saved but the forest becomes “odd”, all starts to fossilize gradually as all that is inside, which Djidane perceives as being the forest which continues them. The team, surprised by this event, fact its possible to escape. However, Frank, a fellow-member of Djidane in Tantalas, come to carry a chart of Lindblum to him, is not able to escape in time and is seen fossilizing in the Cursed Forest.
Once the team with the shelter out of the forest, Djidane gives itself the goal to return to look after and to deliver Frank and thus their adventure begins whereas the team takes the road towards the Cave of the Ices. The black magic Brasier of Bibi is very effective with the team to progress. But close to the exit, an icy draft plunges them all the four in a deep sleep. A tinkling of small bell awakes Djidane, which meets one Waltzer further, a kind of black Magus good larger than Bibi, with wings. This one causes the robber in duel, and loses. The draft ceases, and the three other companions awake. Finally, they manage to leave the Cave in altitude, above the Fog, and see a village with far. Not to point out itself, Grenat chooses to be called Dagga, compared to the scraping-knives of Djidane.
The village of Dali accommodates them, and each one starts from its side: Dagga is involved with speaking in a more current way, Steiner seeks a means of bringing back the princess to Alexandria, while rendering some services, and Bibi will play with the children of the village. And precisely, Djidane and Dagga are disturbed: where are the adults? When Bibi disappears, they discover a secrete way in the mill, which lead to a gallery of undergrounds sheltering an installation which manufactures thanks to the Fog of the mannequins to the chain. Mannequins which have the appearance of Bibi! And all seem to be intended to leave for Alexandria. The young boy, fact captive by the villagers because taken for one of the mannequins, is disturbed by what he sees. On its side, Steiner finds the average ideal to return: a aérocargo must pass to the village for Alexandria. Steiner and the others are found, and leave to go up in the aérocargo when the Waltzer n°2 the attack. The team destroys it, and embarks on the aérocargo. Steiner is reassured, but Djidane decides to divert it towards Lindblum. Steiner does not have time to react because one 3rd Waltzer lands on the aircraft and destroys the mannequins present. Mad Bibi, and faces the Waltzer with Steiner and Djidane, who leaves Dagga to the orders. Overcome, the Waltzer flees on his vessel and launches out to the continuation of the aérocargo. The race finishes with the door of the flying Dragon of Lindblum, where the aérocargo is engulfed, and the door is closed again on the Waltzer who explodes with his vessel.
Once in Lindblum, the four companions are received by king Cid, the Grenat uncle. But this one was transformed into puluche! However, it can still speak and reason like human. And while Dagga requires council of his/her uncle, who reveals to him that it is him which gave the order to Tantalas to remove the princess and which it feels to prepare a war, Djidane and the others go down downtown. Tantalas did not return yet, but the robber finds an old knowledge: Freyja, a woman knight dragon of Bloumécia, arrival to take part in the festival of hunting. Djidane also registered there, with Bibi. Once the finished tournament, Cid receives the participants in a banquet. But all fall asleep of a blow, except Steiner. Dagga took a sleeping pill with Djidane, and doped the plates. She wants to go back to Alexandria to reason her mother, and she wishes that Steiner alone accompany it. It accepts, and leave at once. When Djidane and the others awake, Dagga is already far. They do not have time to carry out that a soldier bloumécian arrives at the castle, announcing that black Magi attack Bloumécia. Djidane, Bibi and Freyja leave at once, and go down to the door from the terrestrial Dragon to join Bloumécia as fast as possible.
After having crossed the Cave of Guismar, where black Magi awaited them, they arrive at Bloumécia, the city of the eternal rain. All was destroyed, and the decimated army bloumécianne. When they leave to save the King, they fall on Branet, accompanied by Happy, captain of Amazones of Alexandria and warlike of exception, and a strange man, Kuja. Happy deals with the three companions, and beats them with punt seams. Whereas Branet and Beate leave for Clayra, where King de Bloumécia took refuge, Kuja stop, look at Djidane, and fly away on the back of a silver plated dragon…
On its side, Steiner and Grenat, hidden in a bag, succeeded in passing controls. They leave now to cross the Southern door in the train, when they meet Tantalas. The troop of robbers teaches them that they are in the search of a platinum Needle, object which could release Frank of its magic spell without awaking the whole forest. Markus joint with Steiner and Grenat, while other Tantalas return in Lindblum. The train sets out again, to be stopped by the Waltzer n°3, still alive but very reached. Steiner, Dagga and Markus deal with completing, and the train sets out again. When they arrive at the station, the companions continue with foot to the town of Tréno. Markus leaves to research Bach, which is there, and Dagga leaves to explore the city. Steiner is thus alone, and finds Dagga in the auction-room. With the inn, they find Bach and Markus, which will leave to steal the platinum Needle in a rich person house. They miss getting caught when Dagga recognizes the owner of the places: Totto, its tutor. He exiled kingdom of Alexandria a few years before. He gives the platinum Needle to Markus, and opens a forgotten underpass, the road of Gorgone, which will lead them directly to Alexandria. But a fosi with destination, the three companions are made capture by Pile and Face, the two buffoons of the Branet queen…
Djidane, Bibi and Freyja regain consciousness, and leave at once for Clayra, a city built in a tree, protected by a sand tornado. But they manage to reach the village, and find Bloumécians which succeeded in being run away, of which the King. The inhabitants of Clayra benefit from the presence of the Knight dragon (Freyja) to practice the ceremony which will reinforce the ensablée tornado, which shows a failure: the tornado is calmed. Branet benefits then from this lull to attack: Happy conceals the crowned Pearl, and runs away themselves by letting the black Magi all destroy. Djidane, Bibi and Freyja are driven back when a mysterious lancer appears and saves them in extremis. Freyja recognizes it with the first glance: it is about Fratley, its love lost. But he does not recognize it any more: its engagements made it amnesic. Freyja is ploughed up. But it does not have time to cry: Happy returns to finish work. After a new combat, still lost by the companions, it escapes to regain the Red rose, the aircraft of Branet. Djidane, Bibi and Freyja follow it, and impotent, sees Branet calling upon the Odin dream which destroys the tree of Clayra. Learning that Dagga is captive in Alexandria, they leave on the field for the castle.
To Alexandria, whereas Pile and Face proceed to a strange ceremony with Dagga, Steiner and Markus manage to escape from their cage. Whereas Markus starts from its side to save Frank, Steiner falls on Djidane and the others. Together, they put in Pile escape and Face, and save Dagga. Whereas they prepare to flee, Branet and Beate bar the road to them. Happy the team fights once again, but when Djidane shows him the bewitched princess, it is turned over against Branet, and with Freyja, the escape of Djidane, Bibi covers, Dagga, and Steiner, which will turn over to lend strong hand to the two warlike ones. Whereas they set out again towards the road of Gorgone, Pile and Face tightens a trap again to them, but this time, they are saved by Markus… and Frank. All go up on Gorgone, but frightened, it exceeds the stop of Tréno and continues straight.
Their road stops in Pinnacle Rock'n'rolls. There, Dagga carries out what it has just arrived to him: by their ceremony, Crushes and Face tore off the Dreams to him which were in it, to leave only one vacuum. Djidane and Bibi try to comfort it and include/understand what Branet scheme, when a spirit appears. An old man called Ramuh subjects Dagga to a test, which it raises. Ramuh being a dream, he agree to turn over in to confer her and him his capacities. DJidane, Bibi and Dagga thus leave the place to move towards close Lindblum, but with far, they see the Red rose approaching, and another Dream, Atomos, devastating the city. Cid negotiates peace in exchange of the held Pearl with Lindblum, and leu reveals that Kuja left for the External Continent. They thus decide to follow it. He entrusts a chart of the world to them, and says to them that there exists a passage forgotten towards this continent in the marsh of Kwe.
In the marsh, they meet Kweena, Kwe which aspires to discover the world to discover various foods. It joined the team, but share on her side by continuing a frog, its preferred delicacy. Thus they tobent on the opening of the underpass towards the forgotten Continent. Whereas they start to be inserted in the tunnel, Lamie, an bargain hunter, their bar the road and tries to remove Dagga, but Djidane puts it in rout. The companions thus cross the Road of the Fossils, to lead to the desert of the External Continent.
Quickly, they arrive at the Master key of Condéa, a village of Dwarves, required passage to continue towards north. While discussing with the autochtones, the Dwarves speak to them about Noiros, who prove to be black Magi! Djidane and Bibi leave to their continuation, and discover in the middle of a forest the Village of the Black Magi, an haven of peace populated black Magi who seem more waked up much than those that they had faced before, following the example Bibi. They tell that they are " éveillés" and the horrors realized that Kuja had made them make. They escaped thus, and settled here, far from the world. Reassured, the troop sets out again for Condéa, and seek a means of crossing the village.
For the Dwarves, the grounds in north are those where the young grooms go in pilgrimage (a honeymoon). Dagga is thus solved with " épouser" Djidane to continue the road. Once passed, they meet a little girl fixed on a branch which threatens to break. Djidane saves it accuracy. It is called Eiko, and invites the companions to go to the village of Madahine-salee, where it lives. Kweena, on its side, sees especially Moug, the mog which accompanies Eiko and which seems to him well appétissant. While it leaves, Djidane, Dagga and Bibi accompany Eiko until at it.
On the road, they see with far the tree from Ifa, source of the Fog which haunts the Continent in the south, but see especially the talents of Invokeur d' Eiko, which disturbs Dagga at most point the. They are thus two with being able to speak with the Dreams, but Eiko explains to him why it arrives there thanks to the horn that it has on the face, whereas Dagga does not have any.
When they arrive at Madahine-salee, they see a devastated village, populated of Mogs, and Eiko seems to be the only human one with living in this place. She tells that years before, a gigantic eye in the sky destroyed the village and all these inhabitants, except her and her grandfather. This history disturbs a little more Dagga, which seems to remember these remote events. Eiko shows in Dagga the Wall of Invokations, where all the Dreams are drawn. Once again, this place speaks with the princess who cannot any more what think.
After being remained for the night, the four decide to explore Ifa. Over there, Eiko uses its talents of Invokeur to open the way. At the fine bottom of the labyrinth of the roots of the tree, they find a demon, which they destroy, killing occasion consequently the source of the Fog: when they arise, all the white tablecloths of fog were dissipated. Of return to Madahine-salee, Mogs say to Eiko that it was done burglarized. Indeed, the Glare of pearl which it preserved was stolen. The robber, who is not other than Lamie the bargain hunter, removes the young girl and takes along it to the Wall of Invokations. But whereas Djidane decides to intervene, another bargain hunter unloads, releases Eiko, puts in Lamie escape which returns the Pearl, and causes in duel Djidane, duel gained by the robber. The bargain hunter asks to be completed, but Djidane the saving, and it escapes.
The following day, whereas the troop is on the point of turning over to Ifa, the bargain hunter returns and asks Djidane why it saved it. Djidane, not being able to give valid reasons, invites it to follow it, to help it to render comprehensible to him why. With the astonishment of all, Tarask (it is its name) accepts.
In Ifa, the troop sees Kuja, and whereas they join it, they see Branet and its troops Magi to arrive by boat on the Continent. Dagga is decided to save his/her mother. But Kuja, seeing everyone arriving, flees in front of Djidane on its dragon. And whereas Dagga and Eiko try to release the Dream guardian of Ifa, Kuja calls Bahamut, which destroys the fleet of Alexandria. Branet is brought by the current on the shore, where Dagga joined it. They exchange some words, before Branet does not die. Kuja disappeared, and Garnet-red di Alexandros thus becomes the new queen of the kingdom of Alexandria.
Of return to Alexandria, the troop is solved to leave Grenat to its new obligations. Totto is fascinated by Eiko, which remembers that Grenat is a child found in a boat of the years before, and that it had a horn on the face that Branet made remove. Djidane requires of Steiner and Beate to protect it, and tries to drown its sorrow.
Whereas the companions are in Tréno, they meet at the time of a tournament of charts, then learn that Kuja, accompanied by Pile and face, attacks Alexandria. They embark aboard aircraft of Cid, and sinks towards the capital. In Alexandria, Steiner, Brutos and Beate defend the city of the monsters sent by Kuja, which calls upon Bahamut. Dagga sees its city being made destroy when a voice calls it and says to him to go on the roof of the palate. Hardly arrival, Eikos jumps of the aircraft and joined it and together, they call upon Alexandre, the protective Dream of the city, which protects the castle from its wings. At the same moment, a giant eye appears in the sky, and Kuja is found unable to control Bahamut, which is turned over against him. Kuja escapes, and the troop embarks on the aircraft of Cid for Lindblum.
There, Cid, Totto and the companions hold council. Bibi, wondering about the presence of the black Magi at the sides of Branet, worries and convinces them to go to the Village of the black Magi. Whereas Eiko will seek Dagga, it realizes that it became dumb. Before leaving, Cid charges Djidane and Totto to find a means of making him take again human appearance, but the remedy does not function and changes it into frog. Djidane thinks of a psychological blocking, and tries to spare it. The troop (which finds Kweena) embarks with Cid on board blue Narcisse, the most beautiful boat of the fleet of Lindblum for the External Continent.
the Village of the black Magi is deserted. Only a black Magus, that which keeps the cemetery, reveals in Bibi and Djidane that Kuja, ordered with all had just followed it, and they did it without resisting. He also indicates to them where is the palate of Kuja, lost in a desert.
Arrived at the palate, the eight companions and Cid are made prisoners. Kuja makes come Djidane, and asks him to go to Euyevair, on the closed Continent, and to bring back the Rock of Goulg for him, if not they kill all his/her friends. Djidane accepts, chooses three companions to accompany it, and leaves on board Hildegarde 1 with Pile and Face, to achieve its mission. On its side, Cid succeeds in releasing the others that Kuja wanted to kill.
has Euyevair, Djidane discovers spirits which tell him the history of Héra and another world, Terra, as well as the project to make them amalgamate. It succeeds in seizing Rock of Goulg, and turns over to the palate of Kuja.
There, Kuja tightens a trap to him, subtilizes the Rock of Goulg, removes Eiko and flees on board Hildegarde 1. Djidane takes it in hunting on board blue Narcisse, and arrives on the Forgotten Continent. There, it follows it to the Peak of Goulg, where it sees Pile and Face to try to remove the Dreams of Eiko. But the presence of Moug ruins the ceremony. Whereas Kuja gives the order to kill the young girl, Moug intervenes and requires of Eiko to call upon it: the mog is in fact a Dream, Madeen. When it kills Pile and Face, Kuja the ressuscite and the fact of amalgamating. Djidane and the others get rid of the monster. And whereas they note the escape of Kuja, they hear a voice of woman. It is Hilda, the woman of Cid.
has Lindblum, Hilda releases her husband of its magic spell, because it is it which had launched to him, after one énième adventure in love with king. It reveals in Djidane and the others the true project of Kuja: to open a door towards Terra, by using four Mirrors, hidden at the bottom of a legendary castle. Cid offers to Djidane Hildegarde 3, its very new aircraft, and charges it with killing Kuja. But at the time to leave, Dagga is untraceable. Djidane finds it in Alexandria, where it notes that it found the word, and to release itself, takes one of the scraping-knives of Djidane and cuts the hair.
The companions leave, and discover the Castle of Ypsen. There, Tarask launches a challenge in Djidane: to find the mirrors before him. It only leaves in the castle, and Djidane follows it. It finds it in the room of the Mirrors, says to him simply that it gained, and from goes away when the guard of the mirrors appears. After the victory, Djidane takes the four Mirrors and leaves the castle. Outside, the others say to him that Tarask did not leave the castle. Djidane only goes back there, finds it wounded and the assistance to escape.
The mirrors having to be placed in four different sanctuaries at the same time, the team separates in four groups of two (Dagga and Eiko, Steiner and Bibi, Tarask and Freyja, Djidane and Kweena), goes to the sanctuaries, kills the guards, and installs the mirrors. The Door of light opens, and Djidane and the others unload on Terra.
There, Djidane, disturbed, says to remember this place. Further, they meet a girl who resembles Djidane enormously. Whereas they join it at the entry of a village, they see a vessel arriving, with a giant eye below. The eye recalls to Dagga its memories, which disappears… They enter Branval, where Djidane discovers several people resembling Mikoto, the girl which it followed. This one reveals to him that they are clones, created by certain Garland, and this man wants to see it. Still full with questions, Djidane goes to Pandémonium, the palate of Garland.
Whereas Dagga returns to it, Eiko sees Djidane leaving, and will seek the others.
Djidane meets finally Garland, which reveals all the truth to him. It is him which destroyed the village of Madahine-salee using the Invincible one, the vessel with the eye, because Invokeurs became a threat for him. It also created the clones, which are only empty receptacles for the hearts of the Fog. And Kuja and Djidane are improved clones, created to direct Héra, but considering missed Kuja, Garland created Djidane, and sent it on Héra. Kuja, jealous, made him forget which it was and gave up it on Héra. In front of all its revelations, Djidane tries to kill Garland, but it prevents it.
When Djidane returns to him, it loses the reason, and wants to find Garland. His/her friends, Bibi, Eiko, Freyja, Tarask, Steiner, Kweena and Dagga, reason it, and leave to find Garland together.
Once they joined it, Garland requires of Djidane to obey to him and fulfill its mission, but he refuses. Garland sends then to them Silverdragon, the mounting of Kuja, which they kill, then they wound Garland with death. Kuja arrives, understands that Djidane learned the truth and faces its " frère". But the combat ends when Kuja enters in fright. Galvanized by its new force, it defies Garland, which reveals to him that it will die soon. Dark Kujas in the madness, keep silent Garland and starts to destroy Terra completely. Djidane and the others escape, and go up on board Invincible with the clones of Branval.
Of return on Héra, the company is médusée when they see that the Fog returned, even denser than before…
On board invincible, Bibi has suddenly the idea to present the genomes, clones of Terra to the Black Magi. It is anisi which Black genomes and Mages begin a life of community, decorated not very explicit dialogs… Our small troop then decides to go right to their final objective: Kuja. They move then towards an immense moderate luminous sphere of reflections purple suspended to the top of Ifa. However, as of the approach of this new place, the invincible one is seen attacked of a cloud of Silverdragons. Whereas the situation seems déseperée, soundain emerges Hildgarde of king Cid and the Red rose operated by Beate. A true air battle begins but the fleet of allied Alexandria to that of Lindblum ends up triumphing over Silverdragons. Our heroes must all the same face the guard of the places: Shinryû, the ultimate dragon. Winners of the combat, Djidane, Dagga, Steiner, Bibi, Freyja, Kweena, Eiko and Tarask discover this new place. As of their entée, Djidane hears the voice of Garland, which teaches him that this mysterious place is not other than Mémoria, the world of the memories (from where the name). Through this tangle of mazes and ruins in any kind our heroes revive their own memories gradually (the Garnet escape after the dstruction of Madahine Salee, destruction of Alexandria…) They arrive finally in a strange decorated room of three arcades; this room is in fact a species of place of transition which carries out our heroes towards a at the very least strange enroit… All these beautiful people are found then in the " World of cristal" ; an enlightened space of thousand fires by the oversize crystal reflections ceaseless… At the end of this tour our heroes then fall on so much awaited Kuja (always in fright). This last opens the hostilities by releasing on our heroes a gigantic bird of fire: Sulphurized. Shortly after Kuja in person attacks our small troop. At the end of the combat, Kuja, feeling lost lance an ultimate attack devastator: Ultima. Left for deaths, our heroes find themselves then in a parallel dimension, in company of the incarnation even of darkness: Darkness. This last obstacle then seems to be the ultimate test before safety eternal. The combat will be testing and difficult but, carried by a determination out of the commun run, our heroes will assert themselves and triumph over the evil…

Characters
Between brackets the original names of the characters (Japanese version) appear, like their anglophone romanisation, and their versions. The dialogs of the play show the various levels of language which the characters have (supported for Grenat, familiar for Djidane…).
- Tribal Djidane ( ジタン ・ トライバル jidan toraibaru /Tribal Zidane): Member of Tantalas, a group of robbers, Djidane is an inveterate seducer. At the beginning, it was supposed to remove the princess of Alexandria, but the plan has turned out badly when she revealed to him that she wished being removed. It is used to him now as guard. The only evidence concerning its true origin at the beginning of the play is its unexplainable tail and its memory of a blue light. It is very nimble and exceeds all its enemies when it enters in fright.
- Bibi Orunitia ( ビビ ・ オルニティア bibi orunitia /Vivi Ornitier): Young Black Magus in the middle pure. He meets Djidane during an accident during a play in Alexandria. Its past is a mystery, even for him. It should be noted that its name is a popular term with the Japan to indicate a pleurnichard or somebody who lack of confidence.
- Garnet-red di Alexandros , alias Dagga ( ガーネット ・ ティル ・ アレクサンドロス 17 世 gānetto tiru arekusandorosu 17th alias ダガー dagā /Garnet til Alexandros 17th): The princess of Alexandria. Worried by the behaviors questionnables of her mother, she escapes from the castle accompanied by Djidane. During the voyage, it takes the name of “Dagga” while taking as a starting point a Dague of Djidane, to hide its true identity. It has a strange connection with the Dreams. During the engagements, Grenat assists its allies with its white magic it can also envoûter its enemies, but its greater force will appear later in the play.
- Edward Adelbert Steiner ( アデルバート ・ スタイナー aderubāto sutainā ): The Captain of Brutos, knights of the castle of Alexandria. Its sworn task is to protect the Grenat princess, and he honest and is intensely worried by the safety of this one, with the result that he seldom carries out the Garnet smartness. Although he does not get along well with Djidane, he assists it to protect the princess. Whereas he does not know it, he is always very respectful of Bibi. Although Steiner is obstinate, it is in truth easy to calm by the Garnet words. Steiner is very robust physically and it can couple its sword with the magic of Bibi when it fights with him. It tests feelings for general Beate ( ベアトリクス beatorikusu ) after a series of incidents implying a love letter of Eiko intended for Djidane. The letter never goes to the good person and rather lets accept Steiner that Beate wrote it while it lets accept the latter that it is Steiner which is the author. Critical
Final Fantasy IX , although he was a better salesman at the time of his exit, is the Final Fantasy of the principal series having been the least best sold since alliance with Sony ( Final Fantasy VII on PlayStation) including until Final Fantasy XI . There are several reasons for which the play was not with the height of its PlayStation predecessors.- a divergence of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII : Final Fantasy IX was perceived like an attempt to turn over to the roots Fantasy of the series, after the two other incarnations PlayStation contained many elements of Science-fiction and that they were darker than the precedents Final Fantasy . Although that was accepted by the admirors of long time, the admirors of the new handsets of the series did not hang to these differences; in particular:
- Djidane was merrier and hyperactive that Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII or Squall Leonhart of Final Fantasy VIII .
- the play returned to the style super deformed, being opposed to the more realistic design last play; it was coloured as more as Final Fantasy VII .
- the play reintroduced several characters inhuman players such as Bibi, Freyja and Kweena whereas Final Fantasy VIII comprised characters entirely human players or of entirely human appearance.
- the system of battle is considered slower than in its two predecessors.
- It followed Final Fantasy VIII : Among the admirors of long time of the series, Final Fantasy VIII was perceived as a great divergence of the remainder of the series; although this change was appreciated by much, he was also criticized. Some suggest that its success rests on success even Final Fantasy VII which would have attracted purchasers for the next play, therefore Final Fantasy VIII . Since some of these purchasers were disappointed by Final Fantasy VIII , Final Fantasy IX did not have the same advantage to be bought at the beginning from which Final Fantasy VIII would have profited, but well a disadvantage.
- the next generation: Final Fantasy IX left little time after the exit of the PlayStation 2. Although one can play plays of Playstation on the PS2, certain people preferred to get plays of PS2 in order to profit from the capacities of the new console rather than to be delayed with a play of PlayStation.
- the strategic Guide : With its exit, Square tried to promote its new service PlayOnline while leaving a fast strategic guide, without too much details, container of the bonds towards the Web site which contained more information. In Japan, there was strategic guide at all and all information was on line. That was regarded as a bad step since people are normally caught a guide to have useful informations and within reach while they play.
- Version PC : There it was supposed to have a version PC, but that forever exceeded the stage of vague rumor. The fact that there no was version PC cut the access to this play with many potential players.
- Some other problems, according to certain players, were that the play used too many kinematics; the Transe system has certain faults (see gameplay); and Tetra Master, a card deck includes in the play, was seen like a version lower than Triple Triad of Final Fantasy VIII .
Anecdotes
- the name of the main character was in an original manner Zidane in the versions Japanese woman and North-American. Certain players think that the change in the French version of Zidane by Djidane was decided to avoid an useless homonymy with Zinedine Zidane, very famous personality in France.
