Filter Breathing apparatus

A filter breathing apparatus (ARF) is a safety device of the air routes. The most known type is the Gas mask, which is of military use.

Compared to a Breathing apparatus insulating, the filter apparatus is compact and light, it can thus be transported easily, but it can protect only from one type of respiratory aggression given, it is thus specific to a danger, an environment.

The filter breathing apparatus is composed of a tight mask or a Cagoule, and a cartridge of filtering. This cartridge contains a filter soaked with chemicals which react with certain pollutant gases. The filter breathing apparatus thus protects:

  • of dust and particles, following the example Mask with dust;
  • of a type of gas given, according to the product soaking the filter.
On the other hand, it does not protect:
  • against the heat of gases, being able to cause burns of the air Routes;
  • against the Asphyxiation when the air does not contain enough any more of Dioxygène.

For the fight against the forest fires, the French firemen have a “batch of fold” containing a filter hood if they would be trapped out of their vehicle.
