This film is cut out in 2 parts:

the first, Death , summarizes episodes 1 to 24 of the series Evangelion .
the second, Rebirth , constitutes the first 15 minutes of episode 25 ' (episode 25 TV altered, improved, supplemented with a new history hitherto).

The part Death is a reassembly, rather random, series TV. This reassembly integrates several new scenes, which were integrated into the series TV in its video version (left 2 years after the first diffusion TV). The part Rebirth is not complete, because Gainax did not have time to finish their project (episodes 25 ' and 26 '). It was then decided to diffuse a first film in March, in which a first impression of the finished product would be shown (the part Rebirth ) and another film in summer, which would be this time the full version.

Whereas the NERV, the last rampart against the Angels are attacked by the soldiers who massacre all on their passage, Asuka carries out a combat without mercy against the nine EVAs. The world prepares to undergo the Third Impact. Which is the true nature of the Plan of Complementarity of the Man? Who are really the Angels? Which goal continues the NERV? Is this the end of the human being such as we knew it?

This second film is an end complementary to the televised series. Its first part takes again the second portion of the film “Death and Rebirth”. The second takes again the context perfectly, but the awaited combat of the otakus is not followed less from there of another perplexed end leaving because while not being either true to the eyes of some. At all events, this film represents a " vengeance" on behalf of Ass towards the public having shouted with the scandal with the sight of the first end. Ass shows them here, contrary to fine the version TV, the " bad fin" , that deserve according to him those which refused to include/understand the first.
