The Filipino peso is the Monnaie of the republic of the Filipino . Its international code, according to the standard ISO 4217 is PHP .
Denomination and value
The Filipino peso is divided into 100 Centavo S. In the local language, the Pilipino, the peso is called piso and its divisions sentimo . It is this C-W communication which is used on the parts and tickets.Since 1950, the peso has a course floating and with tendency to devaluate regularly. Its rate of exchange (at the beginning of November 2004) is of 56 PHP for a US Dollar and 71 PHP for a Euro.
History
In the animated history of the country, the currency underwent many risks. It is in 1862 that the first tickets called pesos fuertes under the Spanish domination appears.In 1901, finishes this short period of independence, American colonization organizes the striking of money pesos, with the weight of the Dollar of 1903 with 1912. It is of this time that date the alignment of the single format of the Filipino tickets on the model of the American dollars. Of 1941 with 1944, tickets were emitted jointly by the occupant Japan board and the guerilla Filipino.
The independence acquired in 1946, the Central bank of Philippines ( Bangko sentral ng pilipinas , in Pilipino) is created the January 3rd 1949.
Parts and tickets
The parts (5, 10,25 and 50 centavos, 1,2,5 and 10 pesos) and tickets (5, 10,20,50,100,500 and 1 000 pesos) are decorated with the famous characters of the Filipino history :- Jose Rizal, inspiring national hero of the rebellion,
- Apolinario Mabini and Andres Bonifacio actors of the revolution of 1896 and members of the Katipunan,
- Emilio Aguinaldo, first president in 1896,
- Manual L. Quezon, president of the Commonwealth of the Filipino ,
- Manual Roxas first president of independence in 1946 etc
In 1996 a ticket commemorative of the centenary of independence, a facial value of 100 000 pesos (measuring 36 cm by 21,5 cm) was recognized by the Guinness Book of the records like the largest ticket of the world with legal tender.
