Filfla
Filfla is an uninhabited small island of the Archipel Maltese.
Geography
Filfla is in the south-west of the island of Malta, with approximately five kilometers of the coast, and extends over a 700 meters length, for an total surface area of 6 ha.The only notable building built on the island was a vault built in 1343 and which was however destroyed at the time of the earthquake of 1856.
History
During the British domination and until in 1971 the island was used many times like target at the time of the exercises of the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
Fauna
One of the characteristics of this small island is to be practically inaccessible because of very stiff cliffs; in 1988 it was declared Natural reserve, which is besides the single place in the world where saw a species of green Lézard to red tasks ( Lacerta muralis VAr. filfolensis ), endemic of Filfla and which survived - fortunately - the bombardments.
Legends
It is told that there are very a long time the inhabitants of it-Maqluba were so cruel that they were to be sent in Enfer for divine punishment ; But even the Diable did not want any, because of their great spite, and put them at residence on a tiny and sorry ground which became Filfla .
