File of Eicar test

The file of test Eicar is a character string, written in a Electronic file, intended to test the good performance of the software antiviruses. In English, it is called “Antivirus test slips by”.

Recognition

This file is published by research center EICAR (European Institute for Antivirus Computer Research), an independent organism. He is thus recognized by the majority of the editors of antivirus (as well commercial as free).

Character string

To test an antivirus, it is enough to create a textual file of 68 bytes containing the following characters: X5O! P%@AP

This file does not contain a virus but a signature which must be detected by the Anti-virus software if this one is based on a method of research per signature. It can be famous in file .COM, it is an achievable file inoffensive MS-DOS valid posting " EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUs-TEST-FILE".
