Figogna mount

The mount Figogna (805 m of altitude) is a mount of the valley of the Polcevera located on the commune of Ceranesi (GE) the heights of which one can benefit from a single panoramic sight (of the Corsica to the mount Cervin) in clear weather. With its top the sanctuary of Notre-Dame of Guardia is, important center of devotion mariale génois.

It seems that name Guardia goes back to the fact that since unmemorable times this mount was crowned of a tower intended to supervise the arrival of possible enemies going down by the valle from Polcevera to threaten Genoa. Side sea, also, in released weather, the sailors can see emerging the sanctuary surrounded of the " Territories of bronze" defined thus in a sentence of the Romain Senate of 117 av. J. - C in knowing the communes of: Ceranesi, Campomorone, Mignanego, Tightened Riccò, Sant' Olcese and the districts of Pontedecimo and Bolzaneto.

The sanctuary owes its construction with an appearance of the Madonna brought back in official documents, occurred on the mount Figogna the August 29th 1490 with a peasant of the place, Benedetto Pareto.
The sanctuary of Guardia is the goal of pilgrimages coming from all Italy and the whole world, and naturally from the génois, very attached to this place.
