Field-the-duke

Field-the-Duke is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine.

Its inhabitants is called Ducécampiens.

Geography

Field-the-duke is located at 2 km in the south of Bruyères, in the valley of the Vologne, with the entry of a small valley where the brook of Lizerne runs. The lieudits name Borémont, Gervaux, Large-Festival, High-of it Fosse, Pre-of-the-Fémure and Red-Grounds.

History

Charlemagne and its court often came to drive out in the Vosges. In 805, Charlemagne and his/her Charles son found themselves with Field-the-Duke at the time of a hunting (according to the variations, Charles would have lost itself or returned simply from a forwarding). Charlemagne made set up a vault at this place. On this site the church Notre-Dame is today.

Nommée Champ the Duke lez Bruyères, the commune became Champ on Lizerne under the Revolution.
