Geography.
CHAMP-SUR-DRAC, the countryside with the doors of the city.Located on the road which connected France to Italy with the confluence of the two rivers " Drac and Romanche " with 13km in the south of Grenoble, 3km of Vizille, the city has a surface of 892 hectares of which a third is in the zone of Drac, and a second third on the mountain of Connex and the Slopes, these two zones not being urbanisables.
The essence of the urbanization and industrialization is thus in the low part and power station of the city.
These various sectors thus have different altitudes: 269 meters for the Plain, 319 m for Combe, and 1281 m for the high part in the Related one.

History.
Name change of the commune
It took place on August 8th, 1901, the commune was called Field-near-Vizille, it became Field-on-Drac with the homonymy between Field-near-Vizille and the Field-near-Froges which regularly caused errors of direction of the private correspondences and/or administrative between the two cities.
Local history
The inhabitants of Field-on-Drac are the chenillards and the chenillardes.CHAMP-SUR-DRAC, Located at 13 km of Grenoble to the confluence of Drac and the romanche, the city has a very rich historical past and many vestiges testify some (church, vault, ruins of a monastery, a forterress and the vestiges of the Castle of Alleman, powerful family to which the mother of Bayard belonged, and whose principal tower was rehabilitated). Its moderate urbanization knew to preserve a green aspect and countryman to him who is very appreciated inhabitants. She proposes many sports equipment (the sports complex Rene Perrouault including/understanding gymnasium, sports grounds (football, tennis…) as well as a stage, in project; and of leisures (water level, hiking trails to foot, horse or in the bicycle…), which enabled him to develop in the associative medium with nearly about fifty associations (law 1901). The recent adaptation of the highway network and the grid system in commun runs (VFD-TransIsère), opens an easy access to him. Its industrial development and artisanal (160 companies out of two industrial parks) ensures a certain financial stability to him.
An accessible city like sporting where it makes good things in life!
Since the Winter Olympics of 1968 in Grenoble, the population of Field-on-Drac only makes increase, but this one has to be reduced because all constructions on part of the commune (in Zone 1) is prohibited (with the presence of the petrochemical factory of Jarrie), this problem will be studied by the government and the prefecture not before the 2008 - 2009 - 2010!!! ; heuresement that another part of the city which is in Zone 2, authorizes the construction of habitats.
In 2006, the city of Field-on-Drac, was twinned with the Italian city Torviscosa (area of Udine).
The common one belongs to the canton of Vizille. Since the year 2000, it belongs to the Communauté of Communes of the Grenoble-native South which counts 16 communes (Bresson, Brie-and-Angones, Champagnier, Champ- on-Drac, Herbeys, Jarrie, Laffrey, Montchaboud, Our-Lady-Of-Commiers, Our-Lady-Of-Message, Séchielienne, St-Barthelemy-Of-Séchilienne, St-Georges-Of-Commiers, St-Pierre-Of-Message, Vaulnaveys-Le-Bas, Vizille.)
According to " Quid 2000" , the city of Field-on-Drac has an agglomeration of 7.309 inhabitants of which the town of Jarrie.
Its Industrialization
The industrial life of the city was very important, (village more industrialized for its time after Grenoble in the province of Dauphine), but with XVIIIe and XIXe centuries, some of its industries disappeared (in 1983, more precisely).Except for the chalk pits of Combe whose origin goes back to the XVIIIe century, the industrial activity truly began only in 1891 with construction from the electric exchange " Fures and Morges". This power station, one of largest of France at the time, then allowed the establishment into 1901 of a cardboard factory-papetrie (Papetrie NAVARRE) and several artisanal companies installed the " Bridge of Champ" , which will mark the beginning of a new era for its community.
The decline 1983, which involved the closing of the cardboard factory-papetrie thereafter will leave a heavy scar in the industrial life chenillarde. Then there was the arrival of an adhesive paper factory in the plain (Avery Dennison, one of the largest Dennison companies in the World) and the progressive development of two artisanal and industrial zones that of the Plain and the Bridge of Field which will make it possible the town of Re-develop out of matters of equipment, employment and urbanistion.

Its Assets
The proximity of Grenoble, the improvement of the road service road and transport in commun runs, its green aspect, make of it today a city very requested with regard to the urbanization. This one for a better quality of life remains progressive in the interest of its inhabitants. Moreover its many equipment: sports complex Rene Perrouault, complex cultural Jean Navarre (with his theater of 300 places), his pedestrian, equestrian paths…, and particularly rich community life support the integration of the new inhabitants, and who develop an unquestionable user-friendliness, very appreciated by all the categories of ages of the population.
