Fides (mythology)
In the Roman Mythology, Fides or Fidélité were the goddess of the bona fide and the honor. Its equivalent Greek is Pistis. It had a temple with the Capitole.
It was the deification of a clean nature of Jupiter which, among its attributions, was the protective god of the contracts, deus fidius , god of the oath and honesty. It was thus the guardian of the honesty and the integrity of the transactions between the people. This divinity finds her seat in the right hand of the man; thus, an engagement placed under the protection of the goddess usually resulted in the handing-over of the contract of the right hand to the right hand of that has which has entrusts it ( according to “Bona fide” of P. the TOURNEAU ).
Fides was called upon during the signature of treaties with the foreign countries, those being preserved in the temple under its protection.
