Festival of the island of Wight
The Festival of the island of Wight is a festival of pop music , being held over several days which is held on the island of Wight (southern parts of England).
History
It is towards end of the year 1960 that the vogue of the pop festivals becomes great extensive, with the phenomenon Hippie . The first festival with Wight is held in August 1968. Second edition in August 1969, with Bob Dylan in high-speed motorboat and 250.000 spectators, one week after that of Woodstock which marked the spirits.The 28, 29 and August 30th 1970, the festival of the island of Wight gathers nearly 600.000 spectators. It reaches its historic summit with the services of Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Free or of the Who. An double album is appeared under the title The Isle off Wight Festival 1970.
Perenniality
But the passion fell down, the death of Jimi Hendrix, occurred in September 1970, marked a turning. The festival knew a long eclipse before reappearing in 2002. It has been held for regularly each year.
