Festival of the Priory of Chirens
Founded in 1964 by the painter Roger Lorin, the Festival of chamber music of the Priory of Chirens accommodated in this splendid Romance church with incomparable acoustics the formations most prestigious such I solisti Veneti, I Musici, the Académie of St Martin-in-tea-Fields, Fine Arts Four-bit byte, the Quatuor Talich, the Trio Wanderer, the Quatuor Psophos, the Quatuor Ysaÿe or of the soloists such as Jean-Pierre Rampal, Lily Laskine, Pierre Cochereau, Scott Ross, Emmanuel Krivine, Vlado Perlemuter, Governed Pasquier, Patrice Fontanarosa.
Through this high level programming, the Festival of the Priory of Chirens reached a notoriety which largely exceeds the regional borders and makes known on the national scene the name of this small commune of the Isere.
Thus, in 2004, year of the entry in the European Union of the Czech Republic, the Festival of the Priory of Chirens was selected to take part in the " Tchèques" dreams;. This demonstration aiming at promoting the Czech type-setters and interpreters, was sponsored by Magdalena Kožená and Václav Havel and placed the Festival of the Priory of Chirens in a European dimension. In front of success of this demonstration and at the request of the European public, the organizers envisage already another demonstration of European size for 2007, with which the Festival of the Priory of Chirens will be once again associated.
