Festival of the Francophonies in the Limousin
The festival of the Francophonies in the Limousin is a festival of theater, dances, music and other arts on the topic of the francophonie in the world, which takes place each autumn mainly with Limoges (High-Vienna).
It is under the denomination “International festival of the francophonie” that Pierre Debauche, then directing National Dramatic Center of the Limousin, created in 1984, the Festival, and the direction gives some to Monique Blin, her former collaborator of the Theater of the Almond trees in Nanterre. In company of Jean-Marie Serreau, they had dreamed many times of a space which could bring together various artists exerting their theatrical practice in the French-speaking countries; a space which would be born in an area of France and not in Paris, in the right wire of decentralization.
More than one simple element of theatrical diffusion, Pierre Debauche affirms as of the first year the role of exchange and training which this festival will have to fill: " The actors will not be satisfied any more to play but it will be established between the public and the actors and the troops themselves, of the contacts which will allow that one really knows oneself and that created a kind of pedagogy South-Nord."
It states the basic thoughts which will remain like the red wire of this event throughout the years, and which Monique Blin, of 1984 in March 2000, will continue to develop:
- Space of meetings of artists and diffusion of theatrical works. - Priority with the contemporary authors of French language.
- Opening of this Festival on the department and the area in which it is established.
- Creation of bonds with various partners around the concept of " the francophonie".
In 1988, Monique Blin equips the Festival with a House of the Authors, place of residence of writing for French-speaking dramatic authors for more details, to refer to the Maison part of the Authors)
Thus, beyond the thousands of artists and French-speaking hundreds of accommodated spectacles, the Festival allowed authors or directors such as Robert Lepage (Canada-Quebec), Sony Labou Tansi (Republic of Congo), Werewere Liking (Ivory Coast), Koulsy Lamko (Chad), Wajdi Mouawad (Lebanon/Canada-Quebec) and well of others, to diffuse their works for the first time in France.
From April 2000 in December 2006, Patrick Mauff, director of the Festival, in the respect of the missions which are assigned with this event, walks on on new tracks:
_ the creation of a workshop of reflection and practice on the setting in scene (1 session per annum),
- the creation of a new purse of writing to allow more authors to come in residence to Limoges, - and the development of theatrical coproductions with other international festivals.
The Festival also intends to cause regular questionings on the concept of " Francophonie".
In January 2006, Marie-Agnes Sevestre succeeded Patrick Mauff.
