Festival of film of Sundance
The Festival of film of Sundance ( Sundance Film Festival ) is the principal American cinema festival and one of principal in the world.
The festival is held each year with Park City and Salt Lake City in the Utah. It presents primarily independent films in competitive or underperforming sections.
The festival is created in 1978 under the name of Utah/US Film Festival . It is held in September, its programming then being made up essentially of retrospectives. But the festival proposes also short films and films carried out out of the Hollywood system .
The festival remains a local event until Robert Redford, which lives in Utah, becomes president about it and, especially, until it is programmed in January, in high season of ski.
From 1985, the festival is organized by an association with nonlucrative goal, the Sundance Institute. In 1991, the demonstration is officially renamed Sundance Film Festival .
Many independent realizers were revealed by the festival. Among those, one can quote Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino or Jim Jarmusch.
The Festival of the American cinema of Deauville (France) paid homage in 2006 to Sundance Institute for its twenty-five years of existence.
