Festival of Poupet

The Festival of Poupet is a rural festival, born in the Vendée on the commune of Saint-Malô-of-Wood, close to the Puy of Insane the.

1987-1993 Any share of the club of basket making where the wicker is braided…

The history of the Festival of Poupet starts with the realization of a mill braided in straw. This mill of more than six meters in height was an order of the organizers of the Festival of the records of Aubigny. The following years, the topic retained for Poupet were the bread in 1988, water in 1989, glass in 1990, wood in 1991, the wheel in 1992, the balloon in 1993… Each year, the festival accommodates more spectacles in any kind.

1994-1997 Poupet… to become `Arts in the Countryside'

From 1994, the music is in the middle of animations with the participation of the Drums of Bronx.

Since 1995, the festival of Poupet becomes “ Arts in the continuous Countryside ” but to proceed on the green site of Poupet, at a rate of eight Sundays per annum.

1998-2001 the festival develops

In 1998, one will see the creation of a " theater of verdure" , built into hard. In 1999, the festival accommodates its first really famous guest: Pierre Bachelet .

2001-2003 Poupet is not a long quiet river…

The heads of poster follow one another, the number of the spectators crosses the bar of the 20.000, but the complaint of a neighbor inconvenienced by the noise will cause a reaction of the Minister for the Culture and a first decision of the magistrates' court of the Rock on Yon will order in November 2001 that the festival must stop. After a respite obtained on call for the summer 2002, organizing association is condemned in September 2002 to cease any noise pollution.

More than 5.000 people signed a petition of support with the festival, but it should well be admitted that this business highlighted a legal deficiency which worries the greatest festivals of France: The Old Plow in Brittany, the Festival of the end of the world in Finistere or the Francofolies with La Rochelle… to leave the dead end, association decides then, at the beginning of 2003, to buy the house of the neighbor at the origin of the complaint.

2004… Festival impossible to circumvent

Except these adventures, the programming contributes to the development of the festival. Inter alia artists, Yannick Noah occurs with the festival and beats the record of the number of concerts (it made six of them) and of the duration in its concerts (4h37). The programming makes the good share with rising stars of the French song (Benabar, Delerm, Tryo, Cali, Fersen, inter alia). Eastern Europe is also present, with Goran Bregovic or Emir Kusturica, which occurs at the sides of other great names of the international variety such as Souad Massi and Lhasa, without forgetting Joe Cocker.

From now on, and being distinguished from a usual festival of three or four days, Poupet animates all the summer season with ten dates distributed over July. The seasons of Poupet accommodate each year the artists who make the topicality, and its importance in the musical medium is illustrated by the partnership concluded with the Victoires from the Music.

2006 , twenty years already

To celebrate its 20 years, the Festival invited in 2006 Johnny Hallyday for an exceptional concert in front of 32.000 spectators. The other days of the season as for them accommodated heads of poster like Texas, Dwight Yoakam, Cali, Bertignac, Cowboys Fringants, Raphael, Dionysos, Tracy Chapman, Hugues Aufray, merry urban the (first part of Nicolas Canteloup).
