The first Festival of Theater of Luzège took place in 1987, with the Rock of Gour Noir, site principal, on the commune of Saint-Pantaléon-with-Lapleau. It is organized by the Association of the Rock of Gour Noir Luzège.

The purpose of this association Law 1901, created in 1986 with Lapleau in Corrèze, is the cultural activity(AP) and the support for creation and the artistic expression.

History

The idea of the festival was born in 1985, whereas the population and the elected officials wondered about the means of safeguarding and of developing old a Prieuré of XIIe century, located at the edge of the throats of the Luzège, in Saint-Pantaléon of Lapleau.

Their meeting with young actors gave rise to Roc association of Gour Noir - Luzège and to its festival of theater.

History of the site

The precipice “Rock of Gour Noir” was perhaps the theater of ritual druidic meetings. Certain toponymic indices and vestiges can let it suppose.

About year 900, the rock is selected because of the exceptional character of its geographical location. Fleeing the invasion of Norman, the inhabitants of the valley of the Dordogne went up the course of Luzège (name Celtic: " the river which luit") to deposit their relics in a sure place there. For this reason, they baptized the rock “body holy” (or “body with the saints”). This name arrived until today.

The “fortress of the abbots” is built at the any end of XIe or the beginning of the 12th century, succeeding immediately that of impregnable Château of Ventadour (1080). It seems to obey a double need:

  • on the one hand, to create a first rampart against possible attackers progressing along the river;
  • in addition, to reinforce the influence of the Christian Faith on an area where, as testify some to the writings of church, paganism remained very long-lived.

The building took forms it of a Abbaye strengthened, occupied by three monks about Saint-Benoît and kept by a small garrison.

With the head was a prior, character very powerful, since higher father at the same time as military chief. Thus Clement VI and Gregoire XI, two of the popes limousins profited in their youth from the title of Prior of Saint-Pantaléon, without to remain there much.

In 1379, in full One hundred Year old war, a truck driver of the large English companies, name of Geoffroy Black Head, seizes the fortress of Ventadour. During the months which follow, it gets busy to subject all the area around, including Saint-Pantaléon. During ten years, the abbey lives under the yoke of Geoffroy and his lieutenants.

Its death in 1389 makes it possible to the French of the duke of Berry to take again Ventadour with its successors, the Roux brothers. Saint-Pantaléon himself will be taken again only in 1391 per Guillaume Boutilier, captain of Charles VI. This last, as of the end of the seat, orders the destruction of all the strengthened part, leaving places from there only the vault and the driving underground corridor at the platform.

Consequently, this site in charge of history becomes a simple small church of village which, burnt twice (in 1462 and 1915) was used for the worship until 1883.
