Festival of Aix-the-Baths of French-speaking Scrabble
The Festival of Aix-the-Baths is a international festival of Scrabble duplicate. The festival takes place with Aix-the-Baths of the area the Rhone-Alps. The competition is disputed by some thousand scrabbleurs coming from different federations. Among those, we find in particular the federations French, Belgian, African Suisse and .
History
The festival was created in 1984 under the crook of Paul Vieilly and the Dauphine-Savoy committee. The Savoyard city had already accommodated the Championnats of the world in 1977, and thereafter in 1996 will again accommodate them, as well as a Championship of France in 1988.The appearance of the festival of Aix-the-Baths is directly related to the Championships of the World. Indeed, until in 1983, those were held traditionally with the All Saints' day. Out, the edition 1984 takes place in August to Montreal (Quebec). In order to occupy the vacant date in the calendar, the first festival of Aix-the-Baths accommodates nearly 200 players in November of the same year.
After a short eclipse in 1985 (the Championships of the World are organized with Brussels in November), the festival reappears in November 1986. It quickly becomes a major date of the scrabblesque calendar.
In 1993, the festival reaches the 500 players. Paul Vieilly proposes in FFSc to deal with the organization of the test, which becomes a federal festival then coming to be added to the festivals of Vichy (created in 1976) and Cannes (in 1986).
Structure
The festival lasts approximately ten days and is composed of several tests. There are tournaments of Scrabble duplicate, often played in five handles, which last two days. There are also the “original parts” (see formulas of Scrabble duplicate) and of the tournaments of traditional Scrabble, which last only one day. The greatest competition is the cut of Aix-the-Baths, a tournament duplicate of five handles in two minutes per blow.
