Festival interceltic of Lorient
The Festival interceltic of Lorient (WIRE) gathers each year in Brittany groups of Celtic music of many countries, derived from the history of the navy Breton, British (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornouailles) and Iberian (Galicia, Asturies).
The Festival of Lorient was born in 1971 on an idea from Jean-Pierre Pichard and joins together every year until: 650000 spectators, which makes of it the first French festival in term of frequentation. The ancestor of this festival was with Brest, but when the city wished to stop, it is the town of Lorient which went voluntary to accommodate the demonstration.
This festival also accommodates the contest of summer of the bagadoù of first and second categories as well as first half of the third category.
Year by year, the festival adapted to the company while making share its richnesses of cultures. Today, it became one of the greatest festivals to the international level and each year a country concerned with the Celtic culture is invited of honor.
