Fessenheim
Fessenheim is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace.
Its inhabitants is called Fessenheimois and Fessenheimoises.

Fessenheim is located in the plain of Alsace at 23 km at the North-East of Mulhouse (26 km per road way).

- Nuclear plant of Fessenheim: the oldest French nuclear plant in exploitation, and the only nuclear plant in Alsace, whose presence is very disputed by the Alsatian ecologists , German and Suisse S frontier.
Pont du Rhin
Jacques Chirac inaugurated Saturday on May 20th, 2006 the road and pedestrian bridge on the the Rhine between Fessenheim (Haut-Rhin) and Hartheim (Germany).
This bridge of 210 m length and 7 m broad, begun in April 2005, is a symbolic realization of the Franco-German co-operation.
The special plane of the Head of the State landed on the air base of Colmar-Meyenheim towards 10:00 from where it gained Fessenheim, in presidential car with its procession of protection. Mobilization of an important safety for this small village of France which, made unique in France, has two powerplants (a nuclear power - oldest of France - and hydraulics on the Grand Channel of Alsace which this day had a medium flow of 1350 cubic meters/second)
The work inaugurated by the President of the Republic becomes the 9th road bridge spanning the Rhine along the border between Alsace and the Land of Bade-Wurtemberg.
Personalities related to the commune
- Victor Schœlcher was a French politician, it is born in a middle-class family originating in Fessenheim on July 22nd, 1804 and dies on December 25th, 1893 with Houilles. He is the initiator of the decree of April 27th, 1848 definitively abolishing slavery in France and in his colonies.
