Ferrette
Ferrette ( Pfirt in German) is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace.
This commune is the Chef-lieu canton of the same name, southernmost of the Alsatian cantons, which includes/understands 30 communes, and also belongs to the Communauté of communes of the Alsatian Jura (CCJA) which gathers 24 communes in edge of the border Suisse.
The current prince of Monaco carries also the title of Count de Ferrette.
The name of Ferrette derives from Latin piretum , orchard of Poirier.
Geography
The commune is in the the Alsatian Jura or Sundgau, to 25 km of Basle, 35 km of Mulhouse and 45 km of Belfort, and at an altitude ranging between 500 and 800 Mr.
Castle
The Château of medieval Ferrette was built on a top dominating Ferrette to 612 m of altitude. This strong Castle, with the state of ruins, is classified historic building since 1842.
History
- 1105 : first mention of the castle. From 1105 at the end of XIIIe century, the county of Ferrette is practically a Sovereign state.
- 1233 - 1275 Ulrich II controls the county with wisdom and skill
- 1271 Ulrich II yields his field to the bishop of Basle and becomes its vassal.
- March 10th 1324 death of the count Ulrich III, his Jeannette daughter inherits it.
- March 26th 1324 Albert of Austria, husband of Sleeve-board of Ferrette, controls the county
- 1648: go back to fastening to the France.
- the July 29th 1789: the castle was set fire to by peasants revolted at the time of the “Great fear”.

Culture
For a few years a medieval festival, with Son et lumi2ere display, has proceeded in Ferrette at the end of June.
