The Groupe Ferrero is a agro-alimentary Entreprise Italy, created in 1946 with Alba (Piedmont in Italy), specialized in the Confiserie and known by leading products such as Nutella, Kinder, Ferrero Rocher, My darling and Tic TAC.

A history of confectioners

The Groupe Ferrero was born from two major events in less than 5 years: its creation in 1946 and the launching of Nutella in 1949.

The use of Noisette S in a receipt with the Chocolat is related to the economic circumstances of after Second world war, time when the cocoa broad beans are rare and expensive. Pietro Ferrero, a small pastrycook of Alba, agricultural village of the Piedmont to the idea to partly replace cocoa broad beans by abundant hazel nuts in the hills of the neighborhoods. It mixes a hazel nut handle, with cocoa powder, milk, sugar and fat contents to obtain a kind of dry bread to the chocolate to be crossed to the knife, it is the Giandujot which is quickly a good success. Continuing its research, it improves its receipt until obtaining a kind of chocolate and noisettée paste supercrémeuse, that it sells under the denomination of “Supercrema Ferrero” in a pot of glass closed by a plastic lid.

After its death in 1949, his/her son Michele Ferrero continues the business and re-elects Supercrema in “Tartinoise”. In 1964, the mark “Nutella” is invented by associating the English term “nut” (hazel nut) and by Italianizing it with the term “ella” an Italian female termination.

After 50 years of experience, the Groupe Ferrero became today the 3rd producing group of confectionery in Europe and the 6th world group of the sector of the chocolate factory-confectionery. It is established in 34 countries and carried out a Turnover of 4,4 billion euros in 2002 and 4,7 billion euros in 2004.

It consumes

  • annually 70.000 tons of Cacao;
  • 56.000 tons of Hazel nut S - first world consumer -, mainly coming from Turkey (1st world producer);
  • 102.000 tons of Milk.

Known and recognized products

The Groupe Ferrero conceives, manufactures and markets dry pastes to be pasted, goûters, goûters ultrafrais, of the shelves of Chocolat, the confectioneries of pocket and the chocolate confectionery. He offers various products of which, among most known:

  1. Nutella, the leading product of the mark, a creamy, chocolate and noisettée paste.
  2. Kinder, a product range chocolate and lacteous for children.
  3. Ferrero Rock, of the chocolates with a heart of gaufrette crusty and a whole hazel nut (launched to France in 1982)
  4. My darling, a cherry macerated in liquor, coated with chocolate (launched to France before Nutella)
  5. Tic TAC, with the small pastilles of confectionery of pocket conditioned in a transparent plastic case (launched to France in 1971).

In 2005, the France subsidiary company of the Groupe Ferrero obtained the label " Best Workplaces" who distinguishes the companies where it " fact good travailler".

In 2006, at the time of the sixtieth Ferrero birthday proposed pots of Nutella of 1,5 kg in “edition collector”, covered with a gilded enballage.
