The Ferrari 156/85 is a single-seater of Formule 1 of the stable Ferrari which made it possible Michele Alboreto to fight for the championship of the world of the pilots of 1985, vis-a-vis Alain Prost on McLaren. The second pilot of Ferrari for this season was Stefan Johansson. This single-seater was one of only the development by Ferrari in the Eighties with being able to compete for the profit of the title.
History
This single-seater succeeds Ferrari 126/C4 of 1984. It was committed at the beginning of the season 1985. Powerful and reliable in the moitiée first of the season, it made it possible Michele Alboreto to compete with Alain Prost and to at the head find championship of the pilots after the Grand Prix of Canada, run on the circuit Gilles Villeneuve. With two victories (in Canada and Nurburgring) and seven podiums at the time from the nine first race of the season, Alboreto had 46 points with the championship against 41 for its rival. But the second part of the season was much less good for Ferrari, indeed, McLaren and their engine V6 Turbo TAG Porsche had made enormous progret in term of pure power and exploitation of the tires. The ingénieure Ferrari to try to compensate, exploited to the maximum V6 of the 156/85 with like result making it fragile. While Prost gained two more Grand Prix at the time of the septs last sleeves of the championship, Alboreto saw its chances to become world champion disparaîtrent purely and simply since it recorded nothing any more but one podium and especially four consecutive abandonments at the time from last four Grand Prix of the season.
Alboreto will declare besides after the Grand Prix of Belgium that it was not possible any more for him to be world champion because McLaren were more powerful, more reliable and exploited the tires best. Alboreto temrina second of the championship of the world 1985, behind Prost.
It will be necessary to wait until 1990 for even Ferrari to fight again for the championship with Alain Prost precisely and Nigel Mansell.
