Fernando Sor
Fernando Sor (its true name Joseph Fernando Macari Leave ) is a Guitariste and Compositeur Spanish, born on 13 (or 14) February 1778 with Barcelona, deceased on July 10th 1839 with Paris.
Biography
It began its musical training with his father, then with the monastery of Montserrat, one time when the guitar was not very popular as an instrument in concert. Since his/her parents hoped of him which it continues a military career rather than musical, Sor enlisted in the army and was moved towards Madrid, where it became acquainted with the Duchesse of Alba, protective of many artists such as Goya, which enabled him to find an use of musicien. In 1813, at the time of the defeat of Joseph Bonaparte in Spain, Sor, which was rejoined with the French cause, had to leave the country, not to return there never again. It is established with Paris, where the artistic activity was in great effervescence, where also the guitar enjoyed a great popularity, which enabled him to build a great fame as a type-setter, interprets and teaching. Its Méthode for the guitar , published in 1830 helped much to harden its reputation, which exceeded that of its contemporaries (Dionisio Aguado, Matteo Carcassi, Ferdinando Carulli and Mauro Giuliani). During approximately fifteen years, he travelled through Europe to present his works to a public which was shown very receptive. In addition to Paris, it was very popular in Londres.
The last years of its life were of an unhappy constraste, since his wife and her daughter died, one shortly after the other (Sor composed its last orchestral work following death of his/her daughter, a Mass in its memory). He succumbed shortly after to a cancer of the language, on July 8th 1839. He was buried anonymously with the Cimetière of Montmartre, in Paris, and it is only in 1934 that its tomb was identified.
Works
Although Sor is recognized especially for its work with the Guitare, it composed in various forms: Lied with the opera, while passing by the music for Ballet and the patriotic Song S. Its work with the guitar includes/understands study S and lessons, Variation S, Menuet S, Valse S, Fantaisie S, etc.It is its pupil Napoleon Coste who undertook to catalog his works after his mort.
If Fernando Sor remains an outstanding reference still today it is probably thanks to a requirement of type-setter that few guitarists of its time had. It was expressed on this subject in foreword of three of its collections of small parts whose titles with the caustic irony are successively Voyons if it is that , Is this well that and Per good hour . It explains there why it tries to make increasingly simple works to answer at the request of amateurs rejected by the difficulty:
“I thus stained to make today as the authors who do not fall into these disadvantages: I wrote for the Editor; as well I am mine since work 34. I followed my models in their melody walk and that of low; I omitted only certain transitions which I could not explain me and of which perhaps would not go reason either Haydn, Mozart, nor Beethoven, because I never found the similar ones in their music. ” (foreword of is this well that? work 48)
One sees well, through these writings, which references are those of Sor; it also showed besides its admiration for Mozart while writing celebrates it Introduction, topic and variations on O will cara armonia of the Magic Flute of Mozart, and the transcriptions of this same opera.
