Fernando Botero

Fernando Botero is a painter and Sculpteur Colombia N born on April 19th 1932 with Medellin. Its style is marked by the roundness of its characters. The deformations which they impose: enlarging of characters or objects, reduction of others, obesity or rather systematic roundness of the forms constitute a true pictorial system created of all parts, which allows the harmony of the table.

Botero, following the example other Latin-American artists of famous (Will rivet, Orozco, Siqueiros) was influenced by European art. Whereas the latter took as a starting point the pictorial revolutions of the time, the such Cubisme, the painter and Colombian sculptor benefitted from his stay with Paris to visit the museums and to take as a starting point the traditional by the Renaissance until Ingres.

The beauty and the love are two paramount requirements of Botero, which is defined itself in opposition with Siqueiros, of which hatred is visible through its fabrics. Botero, even in a critic of the Colombian mode (militarism and religion), it shows the putrefaction clearly, does not go beyond from a soft irony ( Familia LED president , 1967). In 1961, the museum of contemporary art of New York, buys the fabric of Mona LISA at the 12 years age that Fernando made.

It is starting from 1974 that it starts to be known whole world. Moreover, in 1992, its giant sculptures populated the Fields-Élysées with Paris. When one asks him the question of why its characters are large he answers: “LARGE, my characters? Not, they have volume, it is magic, it is sensual. And it is that which impassions me: to find the volume which contemporary painting completely forgot…”

In 2006, Fernando Botero exposed a series of works on tortures to the Prison of Abu Ghraib in a New Yorkean gallery. In 2007 it exposes to the national museum of beautiful arts of Quebec, with Quebec.
