Fernand Schreurs

Fernand Schreurs (Liege the July 26th 1900 - idem the December 11th 1970) is a Belgian Politician of French expression and Walloon militant.

Doctor in Right of the ULg, it was one of the central personalities of the Walloon Mouvement. Liberal personality inhabitant of Li2ege, he was in particular secretary of the Walloon National congress of 1945, presenting a long report/ratio there on the Walloon question whose analysis achieved the unanimity.

It took part in the Résistance, defending as lawyer the resistant ones translated in front of the German Courts of war. It is at the origin of the section free inhabitant of Li2ege of Wallonia in 1941 and started again the important organization which Walloon Economic council was the , with Englebert Renier.

It is thought that it is at his place that into 1950 the future members of the separatist Walloon Gouvernement met. He was also active member of the Center Harmel where the Senate indicated it.

He played a part quite as active in the Accord Schreurs-Roofer which bears its name besides.

He also created in 1962 the Walloon liberal Mouvement, which was opposed to unitarianism beginnings of PLP. He also largely contrribué with the success of the Walloon Pétitionnement of 1963. He also took party in the quarrel of the Fourons. His ratio of 1945 had stressed a series of features which were going to characterize the Walloon decline like the displacement of the decision-making centres towards Brussels, the closing of many companies, the disappearance of the Walloon financial institutions, the emigration of factories or companies towards the Flanders.

It was selected like one of the Hundred Walloons of the century, by the Institut Jules Destrée, in 1995.
