Fernand Colomb (or Fernando or Hernando), (1488 - 1539), is the second wire of Christophe Colomb. It was born the August 15th 1488 with Cordoue from an “illegitimate” union from the admiral with Beatriz Enriquez de Arana.

Biography

Fernand Colomb was a humanistic and large traveller. In 1502, it accompanied his/her father at the time of his fourth and last voyage towards the Nouveau World. It is gone back to the Western Indies, in 1509, like guide of its brother Don Diego, at the time of the taking of of this last as governor of Hispaniola.

It was the first true biographer of his father. He is the author of a Historia del Almirante which recalls the life of his/her father. The oldest known specimen of this work is a Venetian edition of 1571 (translation of Alfonso Ulloa). According to Jacques Heers it is about “an apology and, almost, a hagiography”.

He dies in Seville the July 12th 1539. With its death, the library which it had started to constitute since 1525, rich person of more than: 10000 works, is bequeathed to the cathedral of Seville.
