Fernão de Noronha
Fernão de Noronha , also called Fernando de Noronha or Fernão de Loronha (15th century - 16th century), was a Juif Portuguese converted with the Catholicisme ( cristão-novo or " new chrétien").
Rich person Contractor, trading and Ship-owner, native of the Asturies, Noronha was the representative of the banker Jacob Fugger in the Iberian peninsula. Jointly with other converts and commercial Portuguese, it obtained a concession on behalf of the Crown to exploit the natural resources of the Brésil during 3 years and, in 1503, received Crown a contract of exploitation of the Pernambouc, a wood of value, used in dyeing. Its associates and itself financed the forwarding of Gonçalo Coelho in 1503 which, the July 24th, discovered the island of São João da Quaresma, which will take later the name of Fernando de Noronha. In 1506, Noronha and its associates had already imported more than 20.000 quintals of pernambouc, sold with Lisbon with a benefit from 400% to 500%.
Consequently contract signed with the Crown and from the success of the forwarding of Gonçalo Coelho, the king Manuel Ier of Portugal (1495-1521) entrusted to him, in 1504, the first harbor office of the Littoral of Brazil, the island of São João da Quaresma, today Fernando de Noronha.
In 1532, it was made fidalgo dimensioned armed by the king Jean III with Portugal (1521-1557).
