Fergus mac Echdach King de Dalriada of 778 with 781

The Duan Albanach does not mention this king. Only unquestionable information that we have on him is the date of its death:

  • 781 " Fergus mac Eochaid king of Dalriada dies " ( Yearly of Ulster ).

The three years reign which is granted to him by the historians related to the mention of died of his/her brother Áed Find in 778 ( Annales of Ulster ).

He is in addition, usually recognized, in particular by Alfred P. Smyth like the father of the two kings of the Scots and the later Pictes: Constantin mac Fergus and Angus mac Fergus, born from its union with an unknown princess picte who could be a sister of Alpin mac Uuroid and/or from the family of the large king of the Pictes Oengus Ier.

By this same union Fergus mac Echdach would have been also the father of two girls, wives, of noble the pictes; Uuthoil and Bargoit and whose wire Talorgan mac Uuthoil and Uurad mac Bargoit emitted claims with the throne against kings de Fortriu by being based on the mode of succession matrilénaire of use at Pictes in opposition to the system of the Tanistrie of the Scots.
