Ferdinand Cants

Ferdinand Cants , born the January 11th 1920 with Reopen-in-Plain and dead the September 21st 2003 with Saint-Gilles-Cross-of-Life, was a doctor and a professor specialist in the Cancérologie. It is at the origin of creation, in 1967, of the Faculté of medicine of Dijon as well as that of the center Georges-François Leclerc.

Biography

Professor and doctor born with Reopen-in-Plain in 1920, wire of a country doctor roburien (it will be also itself some time country doctor), this specialist in the fight against the Cancer is at the origin of creation, in 1967, of the Faculté of medicine of Dijon, starting from the Medical school which it directed then, as well as that of the center Georges-François Leclerc (Regional center of fight against the cancer of Burgundy). Specialist in pathologies ovariennes and testiculaires as well as sarcomes of the soft parts, it took part in the realization of a code histopathologic of the tumors, French version of Systematized Nomenclature off Pathology. Writer (in collaboration) of a Franco-Canadian handbook of anatomopathology, it saw himself giving in 1980 the Georges-Pompidou price allotted to the best scientific work to didactic aiming in the French-speaking world. Doctor honoris causa of the University Laval (Quebec), he was member many companies and medical organizations. He also chaired the board of directors of the Foundation Curia (1974-1981) and the French National federation of the centers of fight against cancer (1973-1982).

Its professional path indicates a personality of keen worker: brilliant studies in Dijon, extern of Dijon in 1941, intern in 1942, doctor of medicine with the Faculty of Lyon in 1944, senior registrar of 1948 to 1958, part-time lecturer of histology and embryology (1951-1958), aggregate university lecturer (1955), full professor of the pulpit of pathological anatomy of Dijon (1960-1975), professor of cancerology in 1975. It was implied much in the local life: chair Burgundian League against Cancer during several years but also stimulating of the Chorale of Collegial of Reopen-in-Plain, its native village.
