Ferdinand Alquié (December 18th 1906 with Carcassonne - February 28th 1985 with Montpellier) is a French philosopher.

In the Twenties it forms part with François-Paul Alibert, Claude-Louis Estève and Rene Nelli of the close relations of Joe Bousquet. Together they create in 1928 the review Chantiers and will collaborate later in the review the Books of the South.

Receipt first with the aggregation of Philosophy in 1931, it teaches with the Louis-the-Large Lycée and the Sorbonne, where it counts among its pupils Gilles Deleuze. It publishes many works on Descartes, Kant and Spinoza. Near to André Breton, he writes Philosophie of surrealism . He is elected member of the Academy of Science morals and political in 1975.

One often opposed it to Martial Gueroult, in particular during a polemic about Descartes: Alquié sees in Descartes before all the philosophical gesture, Gueroult “the order of the reasons”. But this opposition also took place on other grounds, for example on Spinoza: the Spinoza of Gueroult answers thus the rationalism of Spinoza of Alquié.

Quotation

" By passion, we also refuse to know what is the present. The objects which the life offers to us are for us only occasions to remember us, they become the symbols of our past. By there, they relative of a prestige which is not theirs; on the other hand, we refuse to perceive what they are in themselves, to seize the reality of the beings which, truly, are là." in, “ the Desire of eternity ”.

" To declare that the reason is the gasoline of the man, it is already to divide the forever missed man in two, and the traditional tradition there. It distinguished in the man what is reason and which consequently, is really human, and what is not reason, and appears, so makes indignant at the man, instincts and sentiments." in, “ surrealist Humanism and existentialist ”, 1948
