Ferdie Bergh

Willem Ferdinand (" Ferdie") Van Rheede Van Oudshoorn Bergh , born the November 2nd 1906 with Stellenbosch in South Africa and deceased the May 28th 1973, is a former player of Rugby to XV which played with the team of South Africa. It evolved/moved at the station of second line, of number 8.

It evolved/moved with South Western Districts in 1931. He plays with the province of the Griquas in 1933. In 1937, it evolves/moves with the Transvaal, then with the Northern Transvaal in 1938, year when this new province is formed. It disputes the Currie Cup.

Career

It disputed at 25 years its first test match the December 5th 1931 against the Wales. He played his last test match against the British Lions the September 10th 1938. From 1931 to 1938, it disputes the 17 consecutive matches which the Springboks play.

The South-Africans make a round in Great Britain and Ireland in 1931-1932. They beat the Wales 8-3 with Swansea, they carry it 8-3 against the Ireland. They gain the January 2nd then 7-0 against the England. Then they beat the Scotland 6-3. It is a large slam. Ferdie Bergh registered a test against the Welsh, 1 against the English.

The Wallabies carry out their first round in South Africa in 1933 for a series of five test matches. The Springboks gain the series by 3 victories with 2. They are their first confrontations.

In 1937, the Springboks initially return visit to the Wallabies (2-0), then the Springboks gain their series against All Blacks (2-1) at the time of a passage in New Zealand. The All Blacks gain the first test match but are inclined at the time of the two following. They deal with strong part because this team of South Africa of 1937 is sometimes described as the best which played in New Zealand.

In 1938 the '' British Lions '' are in South Africa. Two victories and a defeat leave once again the final victorious Springboks .
