Fenway Park
The Fenway Park is a stage of Baseball located in the district of Fenway at Boston, in the Massachusetts. The stage was inaugurated the April 20th 1912 and its contruction cost some 650.000 dollars. It is always in service today, which makes of him the oldest stage of major baseball since the Tiger Stadium of Detroit (which was inaugurated the same day that Fenway Park) was demolished. It is the residence of the Red Sox of Boston.
The stage is in particular famous for the “ Green Monster ” (Monster-Green), a high wall of 37 feet (11 meters) in the left field, which always includes/understands a manual display board. For a few years, seats have been regularly added (in top of Green Monster, in terrace behind Pesky Pole…) and the capacity of the stage is thus assembled to 38.805 people.
History
The construction of Fenway Park begins in September 1911. The company James McLaughlan Company Construction with the load of the building site according to plans of the architect Osborn Engineering. With its inauguration the April 20th 1912, the enclosure counts one stage and 27.642 sitted places but 35.000 places on the whole. To note that the inauguration was delayed two days because of the rain. Work of enlarging took place in 1933 - 1934 to carry the capacity in 33.817 sitted places. A fire struck the stage in work the January 5th 1934, but it been able to reopen with the public the April 17th 1934 for the resumption of the season. The current manual display board also goes back to 1934. With that of Wrigley Field, it is only still of the use in the stages of major League. Famous “the Green Monster ” was also built in 1934 May it is painted in green since 1947. Before this date, it was covered with billboards. The ancestor of the most famous enclosing wall of a stage of baseball was at the wood origin and measured 25 feet top. He was destroyed in the fire of 1934. He takes his modern dimensions then, i.e. 37 feet height. Green Monster is from now on out of plastic since 1976.The record of multitude culminates with 47.627 paying spectators the September 22nd 1935 at the time of a shock vis-a-vis the New York Yankees. With the adoption in 1940 of a law concerning the security conditions in particular related to the fires, such levels of multitude could not be reached any more.
The first match into night was played there on June 13rd, 1947. The giant video screen was installed in 1975 and 43 cabins of 28 places each one were installed under the roof in 1983 - 1984. Another section of cabins was set up behind the marble in 1988: it is the “ 600 Club ”, renamed the “ .406 Club ” in 2002. The panes of these cabins were withdrawn in 2006 and the section became the “ EMC Club ”.
Fenway Park received the All-Star Range in 1946, 1961 and 1999 and the World Series in 1912, 1914 (Boston Braves), 1918, 1946, 1967, 1975, 1986 and 2004. In 1914, the world Series did not imply Red Sox, but Boston Braves played their matches there because their stage was inalienable.
Among the blue armchairs of the platform of the right field, a red armchair marks the maximum distance reached by a blow of circuit in Fenway Park. It is the “ Red Seat ”, localized Section 42, Row 37, Seat 21. It is Ted Williams which signed this blow the June 9th 1946.
The leaders of Red Sox wanted to leave Fenway Park at the end of the Années 1990 to obtain a larger stage. The pressure of the supporters and the town hall of Boston was such as Fenway Park was preserved and renovated. The rescue operation of the stage has as a name “ Save Fenway Park ”.
Other uses
Baseball is the principal practiced discipline with Fenway Park, but it was not only. Boston Redskins then the Boston Patriots (1963 - 1968) played of the matchd of American football of NFL in the enclosure.Match of Football took place there and of the concerts are also held in Fenway Park.
