Fenerbahçe is the football club of the Asian bank of Istanbul. It was founded in 1907.
It is with Kadıköy (the Asian part of Istanbul), at the end of the XIXe century, that Turkish plays for the first time at football. It is on a ground of this district, known under the name of " papazin çayiri" (grass of the priest), that begin the history from Fenerbahçe, site of the current stage.

In 1902, the club is called Kadiköy Futbol Kulübü (name of the district) and in 1907, it takes finally the name of Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü . Mr. Nurizade Ziya Songülen, Mr. Şevkipaşazade Ayetullah and Mr. Necip Okaner, Mr. Hassan Sami Kocamemi, Mr. Asaf Beşpınar found the club in the greatest secrecy in order not to attract themselves the lightnings of the sultan Abdülhamid II, which sees of an evil eye youth of its empire to meet and to be interested in a sport practiced by the families of English expatriates.
But the popularity of the play is such as the government must soon yield and build in 1908 a stage with this team, on the historical ground of Kadiköy. It takes the name of Union Club , since Fenerbahçe the division with an English club which rents it for 20 years. The first emblem of the club is the headlight which is located at Kadiköy on the course of Fenerbahçe, literally " the garden with the phare" (also called Phanaraki by the Greeks of Istanbul) while it is the white and the yellow, in reference to the jonquils which decorate the shirts, replaced in 1910 by the current colors, the yellow and marinades it, which are at the origin of nickname " canaris" allotted to the players.
Fenerbahçe was the football club supported by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, because during the War of Independence, whereas Istanbul was under foreign occupation, the club was the base of the tranfert of weapons in secrecy towards the nationalist movement with Ankara.
The Fenerbahçe stage was refitted in 1929 to reach a capacity of 3.500 spectators and in 1949 to accommodate 25.000 spectators. The stage was destroyed in 1965 and was rebuilt in 1983, with a capacity of 32.000 spectators. With the last restorations (2000 - 2003) it can accommodate 52.500 spectators. The stage took the name of " then; Şükrü Saracoğlu" , former president of the club and former Prime Minister of Turkey.
