Fender Telecaster
The Telecaster is one of the first Electric guitar with body full produced and marketed in series by Leo Fender, as from 1952. Initially baptized Broadcaster, then Nocaster and provided with only one micro, it knows with the wire of the time of the modifications of its Lutherie without the original design not changing drastiquement.
The first model of Telecaster, marketed under the name of Broadcaster, was equipped with two microphones. The firm Gretsch, owner of the name Broadcaster (actually, Broadkaster with a K ), used for a battery, asked so that the name be withdrawn. The first Tellies (such as they are named by the fans) are named Nocaster (the Broadcaster transfer was removed).
Telecaster and its sister the Esquire (Esquire has one microphone with the rest. Its selector makes it possible to obtain three sonorities while exploiting the filtering of the frequencies, of which a direct exit without correction). Certaines Esquire is provided with two microphones, like that of Bruce Springsteen. Esquire was the object into 2005 of a republication manufactured in Mexico under the name of 50 ' S Esquire. There exists even Esquire Signature under the name of Seymour Duncan.
Adopted initially by the musicians of country and Blues, it is characterized by a claquant sound that the Anglo-Saxons name the twang . The " twang" in fact the result of the unit is micro rest/metal rest/support. The microphone sleeve has the effect of being covered by a metal cap intended to filter the acute ones and to confer a more velvety sound to him. Telecaster is built with a body in Frêne of the marshes (" swamp ash") and a handle in maple massive Rockwood. The guitar undergoes minor changes during its long career. It is equipped with a handle with key in purple wood in the Années 1960 which tends to round its dry sonority and claquante characteristic. At that time it is used by Jeff Beck within the Yardbirds or Jimmy Page with Led Zeppelin.
In 1968, Fender takes again its first basic model Precision P-51 equipped with a single microphone and with the look Spartan to re-elect it in Telecaster Bass. Its production stops in 1977.
In the Years 1970, Telecaster is declined in new models. Model 72, known as " Deluxe" , is equipped with microphones for double winding DH-1 conceived by Seth Lover (the inventor of the humbucker), of a body worked like that of a Stratocaster, while the Thinline is equipped with a body dug, a hearing, and sometimes with micro double winding. Andy Summers of the group The Police contributed to make evolve/move the sound of Telecaster, exploiting in turn its dryness of its acute microphone or using the micro low register for some incursion jazzy.
Keith Richards, guitarist of the Rolling Stones, uses since the beginning of the Seventies of Telecaster modified by replacement of the microphone handle of origin by a humbucker Gibson. Its Telecaster emblematic was baptized Micawber (model 1953 butterscotch fair), another Malcolm (model of the Fifties also, on which the varnished one of origin was removed). The typical sound of the fronts of Rolling Stones (Honky Tonk Woman, Jumping Jack Flash, Brown Sugar, Tumblin' Dice, etc) generally come from the one of its Telecaster granted in open ground, the serious semi cord having been withdrawn (ground-D-ground-if-D of the low register to acute). The tie of its cords goes, always from the low register to acute, 0.42 - 0.30 - 0.18 - 0.15 - 0.11.
