Female national league of hockey

The female National league of hockey (in English: National Women' S Hockey League - NWHL) is the Ligue Féminine of Hockey in North America.

Today famous the female league with the best level of play in the world, the NWHL goes back to 1999 and mainly counts to twelve teams with the Canada (11 teams in Canada and 1 team in the Minnesota. The league was created under the impulse of the mayor of the town of Brampton in the Ontario: Susan Fennell . The first official season of the league was the season 1999-2000 and on July 13rd 2006 in sport, the other female North-American league of hockey (Western Women' S Hockey League - WWHL in initials) was absorbed by the NWHL.

Franknesses from the league

With the arrival of new teams, the NHWL must more or less change format. Until the season 2005-06, there were two divisions for the teams of the NHWL (Centrale division and division of the East). Henceforth, there will be always two divisions but Western division will gather the teams of the old WWHL while Centrale division will gather the original teams of the NHWL.

Central division

  • Thunder de Brampton of Brampton in Ontario (founded in 1999)
  • Ice d' Oakville of Oakville in Ontario (founded in 1999 pennies names of the Chiefs of Mississauga then named Polar bears into 2000 before the removal with Oakville in 2003).
  • Lightning de Durham of Ajax in Ontario (founded in 2000 under the name of ClearNET Lightning then famous TELUS 2001).
  • Aeros of Toronto of Toronto Ontario (founded in 1999 under the name of Aeros de Beatrice before moving in Toronto in 2003).
  • Axion of Montreal of Montreal to the Quebec (founded in 1999 under the name of Wingstar of Montreal before being famous in 2003).
  • Raiders of Ottawa of Ottawa in Ontario (founded in 1999).
  • Avalanche of Quebec, Quebec (founded in 1999 under the name of the Panthers of Holy-Julie before being famous Cheyennes of the Metropolis in 2001 then moved in Quebec in 2002).

Western division

  • Breakers de British Columbia of Langley of the Colombia-British (founded in 2004 to evolve/move in the WWHL).
  • Oval X-Treme of Calgary of Calgary in the Alberta (founded in 2002 and played during two seasons in the NHWL before joining the WWHL).
  • Chimos d' Edmonton of Edmonton in Alberta (founded in 2002 and played during two seasons in the NHWL before joining the WWHL).
  • Whitecaps of Minnesota of Brooklyn Center in the Minnesota (founded in 2004 to evolve/move in the WWHL).
  • Ice Meadow of Saskatchewan of Saskatoon in the Saskatchewan (founded in 2004 to evolve/move in the WWHL).

Old

  • Mistral of Laval (of the season 1999-00 to 2000-01).
  • Jofa-Titan of Montreal (for the saison1999-2000).
  • Sting de Scarborough (for the saison1999-2000) famous Sting of Toronto (for the season 2000-01).
  • Griffins of Vancouver (2001-2003).
