Felon is a rural district of the Territoire of Belfort belonging to the canton of Rougemont-the-Castle. The village which gathers two hundred inhabitants is located between the trunk road 83 and the southern slope of the solid mass of the Vosges. Its inhabitants is called Felonais.

History

Cité in 1227, the village belongs to the seigniory of Rougemont and the parish of Angeot until in 1767, date on which it was attached to that of Saint-Germain-the-Châtelet.

The first documents recalling the history of Felon date from the beginning of XIIIe century. At the time, the provincial Count OTTON II, becomes Count of Habsbourg. Felon is the stronghold of the family DE Felon, which one meets into 1227 of the members attached to the family of Habsbourg. Felon was quoted in 1227 under the name of “Vuolon”, like under two other names “Furlon” between 1235 and 1241 and “Fuller” between 1565 and 1585. It is starting from this date that the name of the village changes into Felon.

One of the assumptions on the origin of the name of the village would be qu `a fulling mill existed in this place. This hamlet belonged to the imperial family of Austria until 1648, date on which it becomes the property of the Kingdom of France.

Until the Revolution, the village belongs to the seigniory of Rougemont, which depends on the county of Ferrette. Composing the parish of Angeot until 1767, Felon becomes then vicairie of German Saint of 1808 to 1824. It is only in 1833 qu' an ordinance of the king Louis-Philippe Ier, recognizes officially the autonomy of the Paroisse.

After attachbeing attached to the Canton of Fountain, Felon since 1984 is attached to that of Rougemont-the-Castle.

  • Fulling

Fulling consisted in degreasing wool cloths in the water of the river. For that, one placed the fabric in a tank filled of water and loam, then it was struck successively by three pairs of rammers driven by the hydraulic force. This operation, while felting wool wire, brought to cloths a particular softness.
