Felix de Nicosie

Felix de Nicosie - (Giacomo Amoroso) - (1715 - 1787), orphan of father, came from a very poor sicilian family and was illiterate.

Its life

At 18 years, in it went to knock on the door of the convent to be accommodated there as a lay brother, but it was refused, because it could neither read nor to write. Without wearying itself, without seeking another way, he insisted, and after ten years of waiting, he was finally accommodated with Mistretta, Sicily in the Ordre of the conventual minor Brothers where he accepted the name of Felix de Nicosie.

After one year of noviciate, it made religious profession and it was sent to Nicosie where it was charged to ask alms for his brothers. Each day, he traversed the streets while striking with the palates of the rich person to ask them to share their richnesses, while he brought comfort and help to the poor. He thanked each one humbly while saying: “ That it is for the love of god ”. “ For him, all existed as a God, source of life, harmony and peace. And with share God, there existed nothing any more, nothing which really counted. He had very bet on God, and surely all itself. Its life was apparently made of nothing and on the contrary able to transform all in the Whole. And thus, where its life risked enliser, it transfigured it by the love of god, and infinite ignited it”.

It fell sick at the end of May 1787 and died on May 31st. After the removal of the convent of Nicosie, in 1864, its skin was transferred to the cathedral, in May 1885 then in the new church of the Capuchins in 1895.

Beatification - Canonization

  • the Order of the Capucins began the apostolic lawsuit from beatification on July 10th 1828 which finished on July 12th 1848 with Nicosie.

  • Pie IX proclaimed the heroicity of its virtues on March 4th 1862,

At the end of the synod on Eucharistie and the world Day of the Missions.
