Felix Vallotton

Felix Vallotton (born with Lausanne the December 28th 1865 and died with Paris the December 29th 1925) is a painter and wood engraver Suisse.

Biography

At the 17 years age, it enters to the Académie Julian, whose workshops are attended by many impressionist artists post- like by the Nabis. In less than ten years, young Switzerland manages to be made a name near the Parisian avant-garde. Its fame becomes international thanks to its engravings on wood and with its illustrations in black and white which create sensation.

Starting from 1899, it is devoted primarily to painting. It exposes regularly to Paris, in particular in January 1910, during an exposure whose catalog is prefaced by Octave Mirbeau. It also exposes in Switzerland and in other countries.

Vallotton was a devoted worker, unceasingly in the search of new forms of expression. Touched by the horror of the First World War, it found in the conflict a source of inspiration which pushed it towards the abstract art. It joined again with success towards the end of the war, before dying in 1925.
