Felix Robert

Jean Cazenabe known as Felix Robert , born the April 14th 1862 with Tartas (France, department of the Moors), died with Marseilles (France, department of the Rhone delta) the January 19th 1916 was a Matador French. He is the first French matador to have carried out a true career.

Presentation

He makes his beginning in the Course landaise until 1891, year when he directs himself towards the race hispano-landaise. After a round with the the United States, it fits in a school of bullfighting of Seville which delivers a “diploma for the occupation of French matador to him”.

It takes the alternative in 1894 to Valence (Spain), vis-a-vis toros of the Ganadería Conradi. It seems to be the first French matador to have thus taken a Spanish alternative. He is also first French to confirm his alternative to Madrid, in 1895. Á this occasion, orthodoxy obliges, it is obliged to cut its famous moustache.

The same year 1894, vis-a-vis prefectoral prohibition relating to the Law Grammont, the town of Dax maintains its Corrida. The police force intervenes and the disorder settles. While intervening on the track, the toro is made a duty dislodge the clear-sighted police superintendent. Frightened, the intruder, the “devil” with the buttocks, lets escape the toro. Sowing fear and terror, the toro, crossing the park, its way in direction of the fountain continues and Felix Robert succeeds in catching up with it and killing it in a street whose name (street of Toro) commemorates the incident.

In 1895 with Barcelona, the Navarrese bull of the ganadería of Ripamilan, enters in track and… change the steps, but extremely fortunately does not wound anybody. Whereas it is immobilized by the Cuadrilla , the Civil guard the slaughtering while killing an employee of the arenas…

Felix Robert torée in France, in Spain, and even with the Mexico starting from 1897. In this last country, he marries the girl of a banker and member of Parliament, organizes close to the border of the parodies of bullfight for the customers '' yanki '', makes fight toros against bears and piles up a gold mine. The Zapatist revolution drives out it of Mexico. It then directs a circus of one hundred horses, with the the United States, in the Utah. It has also a racing stable of horses, and Dale Pierce quotes it like one of the sixty personalities of the American West, at the sides of Billy the Kid, Butch Cassidy, Geronimo and Kit Carson.

It returns to France where it dies in 1916. It is buried with Marseilles with the Saint-Pierre cemetery.
