Felix Hoffmann

Felix Hoffmann (January 21st 1868 - February 8th 1946) was a German Chimiste . He was born with Ludwigsbourg and studied the Chimie with Munich. In 1894, it joined the pharmaceutical research service of Bayer to Elberfeld.

It is mainly known to have synthesized the acetylsalicylic acid the August 10th 1897 for the first time in a form stable, usable at medical ends . Bayer launched this substance on the market under the name of Aspirine.

This substance had already been synthesized before, but not being able to be subjected to an medical application. The acetylsalicylic acid had been synthesized by the Strasbourg eois Charles Frederic Gerhardt in 1853.

Some time after this discovery, Felix Hoffmann left the research service for the pharmaceutical department of marketing, where it remained until his retirement in 1928. In 2002, it was introduced into the National Inventors Hall off Famed.
