Feignies

Feignies is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Its inhabitants is called Finésiens.

Geography

The town of Feignies, which belongs to the Agglomération of Maubeuge, is located on RN49, between Valencian and Jeumont.

The Rivière Flamenne takes its source there.

History

The ground of Feignies occupied originally by the Nerviens, undergoes the Roman invasion, then the devastations of the Barbarians. Possession of the frank kings fallen to the hands from Clovis Ier, it was attached to the kingdom of Austrasie. At the 9th century, the invasions of the Normands sowed desolation in the area.

Feignies belonged then to the counts de Hainaut.

To the 13th century, it passed between the hands of the Seigneur S of Audenaerde and Rozoit.

To the 14th century, it turned over to the Count de Hainaut which yielded it to the Count de Flandre.

Passed to the capacity of Charles Quint, it was given to the lord of Senzeilles later, vice king de Naples, then in 1545 with the duke of Aarschot. It passed then to the |duke of Croÿ and Orleans.

From the Treated of Nimègue in 1678 and transfer of Hainaut with France, Feignies concerned the royal Prévôté of Maubeuge. The commune became in 1790 the place chief of a canton of the district of the Quesnoy, then was attached to the canton of Bavay.

  • Renault: The creation of the industrial park of Grevaux-the-Guides with Feignies made it possible to accommodate the Chausson factories in 1971, which will become the Usine Renault de Maubeuge, Maubeuge Automotive Engineering (MCA), subsidiary of Renault - Nissan. - With the Méca-future project, installed on the territory of Feignies, the community of agglomeration of Maubeuge Val of Sambre wants to confirm the dominant position of the Valley of Sambre in the mechanical engineering industry. Méca-future is the only pole of formation to machining at high speed of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais area, and in the north of Paris.

- The City of the Company of the Chamber of commerce and Industry of Avesnes-on-Helpe was built in full heart of the industrial park of Feignies.

- The Polytechnic Institute of Hainaut Cambresis (IPHC) opened a school on the zone of the City of the Company. The formation prepares engineers of ground intended to manage and optimize the production. They will occupy of the functions in the field of the production control, quality, manufacture, the methods, in sectors as varied as the metallurgy, the plasturgie, the book-related industries, the agroalimentary one, etc

Places and monuments

  • Strong Leveau: Within the framework of the program of 1874, the fort of Leveau belongs to the six forts built in periphery of Maubeuge to put the city at the shelter of the bombardments. It is located at 3250 meters in the North-West of the place and occupies an total surface area of 8ha and 25a. Today, property of the town of Feignies, it is one of the last witnesses of Maubeuge the Soldier in 1914. Sauvegarde association Fort of Leveau was born in 1993 and works since with the restoration of the places. Its goal is to give again with the site its aspect of origin, while preserving the trace of the combat of the past.
