Feidlimid mac Crimthain
Feidlimid mac Crimthain (770 - 847) king of Munster (820 - 847), abbot of Cork and Clonfert, laughed Ard Érenn " in opposition " (838 - 841/847)
Fedlilmid mac Crimthain belongs to the Clan of Éoganacht Chaisil of Cashel. Born in 770 it goes up on the throne of Cashel or Munster at the 50 years age in 820.
It seems that he exerted ecclesiastical functions because he is presented like a That die ( monk ). Annals indeed note that at the beginning of its reign in 823 " the Laws of Patrick Saint were established in Munster in co-operation with Artri mac Conchobar of Armagh " .
Feidlimid quickly undertakes however a succession of military campaigns where the monasteries by are not saved. That of Galinne of Breton (County of Offaly) is burned in (823), Delbna Bethra (Comté of Offaly) in (826). The abbey of Fair (County of Westmeath) is also burned.
It fights then the Connacht and the O' Neill when mac Donnchadh brother from the laughed Ard Érenn Conchobar mac Donnchada in 830 fall Follamon.
In 836 he becomes abbot of Corcach after having made imprisoned his predecessor Dunlaing mac Cathussaig. Finally with the joint forces of Munster and the Leinster it plunders Brega in (840).
If the Yearly of Ulster and those of Inisfallen agree on the meeting between Niall Caille mac Áeda and Feidlimid mac Crimthain in 838, they diverge on the place Cluain Chonnaire Tomain for the first and Cluain Ferta Brenainn for the seconds but especially on the continuations from this " royal conference " who are not specified by the Annales of Ulster whereas Annals of Inisfallen indicate that: Niall Caille mac Áeda king de Tara is subjected to Fedlimid mac Crimthann. Of this fact Fedlimid became the king of all Ireland and occupies the pulpit of abbot of Cluain Ferta (Clonfert) . These same Annals indicate that in 840 Fedlimid devastates Leth Cuinn (i.e the northern half of Ireland) of Birr to Tara, control Tara and captures Gormlaith the girl of Murchad king of Leinster which was the wife of laughed Ard Érenn, with its following while Indrechtach mac Mael Duin is killed by him with Tara.
For the year 841 Annals of Ulster still specify that Feidlimid invades Meath and Brega and stops with Tara while Niall invades Fir Chell and Bethra. It is then indicated that Feidlimid led an army to Carmain and that Niall goes against him in Mag Ochtar (Comté of Kildare) without however that there either that the result of the meeting (battles?) that is to say clarified.
The following entry specifies simply the date of dead of Feidlimid mac Crimthain king de Munster 847. annals of Ulster then describing it like a scribe, the anchorite and best of Irish . Feidlimid will have like successor on the throne of Cashel Olchobar mac Cinaed described as abbot of Imlech Ibuir (Comté of Desmond).
